The first thing I would say is "looks can be deceiving". The community surrounding the venue is in the midst of regenification however, when you walk into the venue you will be blown away. The venue is exactly like the photos on the website if not better!

Scheduling a wedding on a holiday weekend is extremely challenging and the staff at The Grandballroom was absolutely wonderful.
Leading up to the event the management team was extremely accommodating. The day of the event, I can't say enough about the professionalism and care displayed by every employee on-site. I would highly recommend the usage of this facility.

The Grand Ballroom is a beautiful venue to hold any celebration. it's in the heart of the Woodlawn community, and they embrace the community. The staff is very professional and accommadating. I will definitely consider them again when planning any social event.

The bride and groom is responsible for obtaining the liability insurance. We found this out after we signed the contract.

I would highly recommend the Grand Ballroom to anyone getting married - our guests were WOWED by the facility, with it's beautiful shiny floors, great for dancing, 40 foot bar, and chandeliers. We were enamored of the ballroom when we had attended a couple of dancing events prior to our wedding, but once we met Mark Wallace, that sealed the deal. He is great to work with, a total class act. He was definitely a big part of why we loved the venue so much. The Venue is a unique, diamond in the rough that no one would know is located just south of Hyde Park. By the way, if anyone is getting married on the University of CHicago Campus, this place is just a 5 minute drive away. We loved the service, loved the food, loved the bar, loved the floor, loved the molded ceilings and walls with cinderella shoes and love the history behind the place as well. As avid Chicagoans, knowing our local history is super important to us. The place used to be a hip Chop Suey joint called Cinderella's Chop Suey in the 30's, which is where the cinderella theme comes from. Even the chairs have a cut out of a shoe on the back. This place is committed to all the details that make a place more than just great - they make the place special.

Our guests were particularly surprised at the high quality of the food, as not many were familiar with The Grand Ballroom. We received good counsel on planning the event, and every request we made was handled. This place is a hidden gem!

The Grand Ballroom is truly a hidden gem. The venue is gorgeous and the team was very willing to allow us the flexibility in terms of decorations and room layout. Mark and Pam were both extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. They ensured that our wedding reception exceeded our expectations. The catering menu isn't the most extensive, but it's definitely quality. The catering also does not allow guests to select fish, beef or chicken, everyone must get the same dish. There are two parking lots available for guests, but there's also plenty of free street parking which is becoming a rarity in the city. We would definitely recommend the venue to others.

Overall, the Grand Ballroom was a spectacular place to have our wedding reception. It is a unique venue in an unassuming location, which makes it a fabulous diamond in the rough - not the typical reception hall. Everyone was in awe at how beautiful and majestic the ballroom was. We fell in love from the first time we went to view it. My husband and I moved our wedding date up after we booked the venue and they were so accommodating in finding us another date that worked for our schedule. The ambiance was great, the food was tasty, the staff was professional, and the prices were so reasonable. We had the wedding reception of our dreams and didn't break the bank. I would recommend the Grand Ballroom for any semi-formal or formal event.
