We booked the house and both lawns as we were anticipating as many as 300 guests. The house and grounds are beautiful and are great all on their own requiring very little decorating. We did have some issues with our original coordinator Jenna leaving and not being informed of her departure until I called the house after sending several unanswered e-mails.Then there was the feeling of being bounced around between the remaining coordinators. I was told one woman would be at the house the day of the wedding and when we got there found out it was someone else whom I had never met before. The power went out in the tent during the dancing for about 10 min's and when our DJ called the coordinator to inform her she was unaware the power had gone out. Finally around 9pm our bar was shut down and my husband and I spent twenty min's trying to find the coordinator to see what had happened (turned out to be a miscommunication we were told). I would recomomend this venue still, but it may be easier to deal with if you have a wedding coordinator so that they can deal with all the little things that were left hanging and that came up during the reception.

I was planning our wedding from Orange County, CA. Elizabeth was such a great help to me- she recommended a justice of the preace, caterer, florist, pianist and photographer. All were exceptional. Whenever I had questions or just needed to speak with her, she was always there.

The historical house is wonderful and photographs beautifully. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Our wedding was perfect, thanks in no small part to The Commandant's House.

I love the CH, and since my husband and I have lived in Charlestown for the past 2 years, we knew it was the place for us especially since it would be convenient for OOT guests (as opposed to having them fly in and then drive an hour to Gloucester, which was our original plan). The venue is gorgeous and perfect for us. The only reason that this is not 5 stars is beacuse Michelle, the manager, tends to be somewhat of a micro manager as we got closer to the date, but if you are relatively assertive you will be fine. Also, since we had planned to do the ceremony on the lawn and not in the house, they don't let any of thier furniture leave the house so we had to rent our own chairs. However, as the date got closer and we all got to know each other better, they kind of backed off on that and even offered to let us use some of their tables outside for part of our ceremony. All in all a great experience-Denise, Jenna and Elizabeth are all top notch. One word of advice if you are getting married here: There is no tv or radio in the house so even though there is a lot going on day of you usually want some kind of background noise, so bring an ipod with speakers for getting ready.

We chose The Commandant's House after doing some research online and making a visit to the site. We were able to use the entire house on our wedding day. The bridal party got ready upstairs and our guests were welcome to wander around the house during the reception. The house itself is gorgeous. Our ceremony was held on the side lawn, with reception under a tent on the main lawn. Just a few steps away was the U.S.S. Constitution. We were able to take photos next to the ship with the Boston skyline in the background. Our guests all commented on how much they loved the venue. It was a beautiful space.

The venue also has an Event Coordinator, Michelle Minasian. You are required to have her there on the day of the wedding, but I recommend hiring her as a wedding planner as well. She was very helpful.

You are also required to pay for a park ranger that is present during the wedding. However, the ranger was mostly out of sight and only would have stepped in to resolve any conflicts.

From the moment we stepped into The Commandant's House, my husband and I knew immediately this was the place we wanted to hold our reception. The staff was amazing from the first day we walked through the doors. Amazing views of the Boston skyline, the Constitution and the Boston Harbor are just a few of the things we fell in love with. The decor of the house along with its history was just the intimate setting we were looking for. The staff was absolutely fabulous! From the day we walked in to look around, to the moment we stepped out of the limo, to our last dance and our final goodnight to our guests were perfect! I highly recommend this venue not only for the atmosphere, but the professionalism and suggestions from the staff made everything about the planning a pleasure!
