We order our wedding cake a month ago. We showed the employee working, the cake we wanted from the pictures they showed us. I spoke to Joan myself and requested butter cream frosting with fondant overlay. We pickup our cake today at 11 am with the wedding at 4 pm. It was not the cake we order. It was very pretty and it may taste wonderful. Joan said the filling was not filled as much and I said the cake is not what we choose. She said we weren't sure which one it was. So instead she made the order up without even thinking about calling us. She did give a $ 75 refund, as the cake was $150 which I had no problem with the orginal cost. A wedding is a one time deal. I did call her after we arrived at home and she stated to bring the cake back and she would overlay it with the fondant. Really who has time to bring the cake back the day of your wedding? Its a pretty cake but looks like a white birthday cake, I cant say how disappointed we are with this cake. Who wants a birthday cake for a wedding cake!!! I would never go back to that business nor would I ever suggest anyone to go there!

For our wedding, Joan created two surprise specialty cakes for the bride; one was a puppy and the other was a cat. Both cakes were not only adorable, creative and awesome to see, but were delicious! Somehow Joan was able to combine the art of sculpture with the art of baking without compromising on beauty or flavor. Joan is an artist and her specialty cakes are amazing!

I don't know what else to say except, my cake looked great, tasted great and was within my budget!
I am so happy we got our wedding cake from Joan's Cake Chateau. It was beautiful. Exactly what we ordered and absolutely delicious. One layer was chocolate with a Baileys center, the middle was lemon cake with vanilla center and the top was red velvet. Let me just say, the top layer will not make it to the 1 year anniversary. We dug into it at the after party. Her pricing is fantastic and she is so warm and friendly.

First of all, let me say that Joan's cakes and designs are awesome! When I first called to make an appointment for the initial consultation, she asked me to pick three cake flavors to try and then she had three full size cupcakes for me, my husband and the friend we'd brought along to taste in each flavor. She also had a couple of huge photo albums of her work for us to look through and it didn't seem like there was any design she couldn't do.
We looked at a couple other vendors but Joan far surpassed them in both taste and design. I called her a couple months before the wedding to book her. I was a little disappointed that she didn't do any communication by e-mail because that was how we set up details with a lot of our vendors. Anyway, I had to send her the check and a picture/description of the cake we wanted by mail since we were from out of town. Luckily my husband had taken a picture of the design we liked when we were there for the consultation.
The real problem came about a week or so before the wedding. I had called Joan a little over two weeks before the wedding to give her the final count and find out how much the final amount would be so I could send a check. At the time she had asked me to send directions because they weren't familiar with the venue. I popped the check and directions in the mail a couple days later. About a week before the wedding, I get a call from her husband who delivers the cake telling me that he spent five hours driving around the Catskills looking for our venue (our venue was nowhere near there, it was near Lake George in the opposite direction) and he couldn't find it. If we wanted our cake we were going to have to pick it up ourselves on the wedding day otherwise he was going to send our money back. Apparently all he had remembered from what we said was Echo Lake which he had his daughter look up online and there's another Echo Lake in the Catskills. He didn't even look up the name of the venue and Joan hadn't told him she had asked us to send directions (which didn't arrive until two days after this phone call). Luckily my husband was able to get on the phone and set him straight on where the wedding was located. As soon as my husband said the wedding was in Warrensburg, Joan said, "Oh yeah, they did say it was in Warrensburg."
Anyway, the cake got there on time the day of the wedding and it was beautiful and delicious. I just think that this business needs to update with the times a little and get e-mail and a cell phone so that they can better serve their customers. It was a bit stressful almost not having a cake a week before the wedding.
Joan was great to work with. I went in person once and since I live out of town, my parents dropped off the cake design I had in mind and it came out exactly as I imagined it with the Irish knot. It was beautiful and tasted great too!
I used this bakery form my daughter's birthdays when she was small and knew that this would be the perfect bakery for my son-in-law's grooms cake. Joan did a wonderful job! Not only was the cake unique, but it tasted how I remembered it...moist, and yummy!
We provided Joan with a picture of the cake we wanted and she made it wonderfully! Unfortunately we didn't get any besides what ended up on our faces ;) but all of the guests said it was delicious. The cherry blossoms were handmade and there was a lot of detail in the cake.
I had never heard of Joan's before and was very nervous about the cake..... My mom had said they used her all the time at her job and she never ate anything bad from there.... The prices were fantastic and they dealt well with me two weeks out from the wedding when I decided to change my mind on the cake design.
The cake was beautiful, yummy and is still, 3 weeks later, adding the lbs to my hips and butt!
I used Joan's Cake Chateau because she said that she could make the cake I wanted (from a Martha Stewart Weddings picture) and was about 1/2 the cost of all the other cake bakers I called. She does not have as many flavor combinations as other places, but I was serving other desserts at the wedding and was not too concerned about the flavors. The cake required using some "springerle" molds. I offered to purchase some, but she happened to collect them and actually had the same ones used in the magazine picture. The cake was beautiful! It looked just like the one in the magazine, and I was recently told that my cake will be featured in a local magazine. It tasted good, too. She covered the cake in buttercream prior too putting the fondant over it. I would use Joan again.
