Super frustrated...and in desperate need of advice!

Sharonna, on October 25, 2012 at 12:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

So, I ordered my bridesmaid dresses from www.bridesire.com. It says on their website that they are based out of New Jersey. (NOT TRUE!...more on that later...) It said on their website that you could have it custom made if you just sent your measurements. I ordered 3 dresses and had them "custom made." I put in two separate orders so that two of them would be sent to bridesmaids that live closer together and one to my fiancé’s sister who lives out of state. Well...long story short, the two dresses that were made and sent together were fine! Beautiful dresses! HOWEVER, the one for my fiance's sister was NOT made correctly! I contacted the company and they told us to ship it back to them and they would re-make the dress. Well, the address to ship it back was NOT in New Jersey but in Shanghai, China!

We had to pay about $30 to ship it back to them. Well, they took their time (about 3 weeks) before even getting back with us on the status of the dress. They claimed that they had “fixed it” and they sent it back. However, upon getting the dress back, it was WAY worse than it had been before! I contacted them again and sent pictures to the company. They said that we needed to take measurements on the dress that had been returned to us to prove that it was wrong. The measurements on the dress weren’t even close to what we had given them to work with! They had been ignoring my emails and phone calls and refused to help me out even though it was their mistake. Well, I finally was able to talk to someone tonight. They told me that I needed to take pictures of the measuring tape up against the dress to prove that it had been made wrong.

So, we did that. I sent the pictures and they said “Well…it can vary up to an inch” (keep in mind that it was WAY more than an inch off!). So, I asked if they had received the pictures and they said “We don’t see how it has been made incorrectly.” and told me that I needed to ship the dress back to them to be checked again. I didn’t want to have to pay another $30 to ship it back and have it returned in even worse condition! So, I told them that they needed to just make a new dress and have it shipped to me immediately or I would be trying to file a claim or something with my bank. They told me that it was not their fault and that it could vary up to 2” in either direction (notice that is different than what they told me before, PLUS the measurements were more than 2” off from the original measurements!!) They still refused to make me a new dress and told me that I needed to leave them alone and it was not their fault and that there were no refunds and no way of getting my money back! Horrible service!! Very rude and disrespectful to their customers! When I first was looking at their site, they had a 5* rating from people who had ordered from them previously. I tried to get on and post a negative review and when I submitted it, it said that it had to be moderated and would be posted as soon as it was moderated. False! My review is not on their site and they maintain their “5* rating!” ~ So, prayers would be very much appreciated as I have NO idea what to do now!! Thanks much!

Did you or your bridesmaids pay with a credit card? If so I would dispute the charge.

I'm glad most of the dresses came out right, as that's a Chinese knock off site and things like this is why we warn brides not to order dresses from them. If you don't mind, I'd like to add this to my list of Chinese knock off dress warning posts.

What color are the dresses? Can you get something in a similar style from David's/Alfred Angelo? Even Target has dresses for pretty cheap ($70 or less).

I would dispute the charge with your credt card company. Can you take one of the good dresses to a seamstress and see if they can recreate it for your third bridesmaid?

I would dispute the charge with your bank or credit card company and I would notify the Better Business Bureau about this. Since they are saying that they are located in the U.S., you can let the BBB know and they can give them a negative rating. I would also post negative reviews on any site that they are listed on (starting with this one) so that brides know not to use them.

Is the dress too big or too small? If it is too big, I would cut my losses with the company and find a seamstress to fix it and make it look like the other 2. If it is too small, you will need to find matching fabric to have a seamstress make a matching dress.

Oftentimes, the knockoff sites copy a design from an actual designer, so you could also research that and buy the dress from the real designer (but it could make the other 2 look off when all standing together.)

When buying from websites, especially those you aren't familiar with, it is best to try and find reviews from another source - companies don't want to advertise their own bad reviews!

I agree with Sara - if the dress still fits then I'd bring it to a trusted seamstress to fix the problem to the best of her ability. Also, file a complaint with the BBB and write reviews online, everywhere you can so other brides can stay away from them! I'm sorry this had to happen!

    WOW!

Sharonna, I would suggest your fiance call them and raise hell. If they don't listen to him, have someone else call. I wouldn't listen to them...I would hound the shit out of them untill they got soooooooo tired of listening to me bitch and just caved it and made the damn dress. BUT at the same time I would fear that they would purposly fuck up the dress out of spite. Good luck to you dear.

That's the thing, though, they are in China -- you can call and yell all you want, but they have her money, and it'll be difficult, if not impossible for her to get back. It'd be a lot easier if it was a store here in the US, where we have some protection, but China is a different ball game, and you have a lot less protection. I doubt a China seller will care about the BBB (if they can even do anything) since brides will unfortunately continue to fall for the "fabulous price."

Can a local seamstress match the fabric to let it out? Do you know who the original designer of the dress was?

Hmmm... well, if you look on facebook, this company says they're based in Bridgewater, NJ, they even have an address. Another bride has her review on youtube, showing the dress she bought, her complaints, and the company won't refund her the $. I think you have a case here, if you do want to file a complaint.

If you don't mind me asking which site was it? Because I'm looking to purchase my BM dresses online and feared chinese knock offsites.

A company can list a U.S. address even if all that's there is a warehouse, or an empty office.

So sorry this happened, especially since you didn't realize it was a Chinese knock off site. Other than contesting charges on a credit card, which I dont really think will turn out in your favor, there is really nothing you can do but spread the word of your experience EVERYWHERE with pics.

To solve the problem of naked BMS, I would try and find a different dress with colors to match or complement your existing dress or go to a seamstress. But, it doesn't look like a seamstress can fix that mess.

    Keep us updated.

    Good luck!
