How We Met:   Jess's Version-   In February of 2008, my climbing girls (Alex & Liz) and I were at The Rock Club, as usual, when I noticed the cute guy behind the counter. On my way to get some water from the fountain, I got "yelled at" for running in the hall-yes by that same cute guy. Although I loved climbing with Liz, her taste in music, in my opinion left something to be desired. Thus when Gold Digger, came on for something like the 4th time, I had to ask Rob (the cute guy behind the counter) for music salvation. We soon got in to a conversation about artists and genres of music we both enjoyed.   The first night of The Rock Club ACL (Adult Climbing League), was when we truly started our lives together. After climbing/competing all night a large group of us went out for drinks and food.  Once the meal was over, Rob and I decided we weren't tired, so he came over to watch a movie. From that day on, we've been Jess and Rob (or Rob and Jess).   Rob's Version- Who would’ve thought I’d owe so much to a Kanye West song.  Nightwish... now that makes more sense!  I choose to believe it was my impeccable taste in music that won Jess over.  Ok... you can stop laughing now.   I was still riding high on having seen both Within Temptation and Nightwish within the last week or two when one of our customers came up to the front desk, rolling her eyes, and begging “can we please put something else on?”  Her friend had given me a mix CD to put on the gym stereo.  It was all the type of glam-rap that I can’t stand, but I wasn’t in the habit of shoving my music preferences down the customers throats.   I said as much, and she asked me what I liked, so I started talking about the two concerts.  I thought she was about to jump over the counter, she was so jealous that I’d seen them.  I mentioned that Nightwish was coming around again in a couple of months, so she hadn’t missed her only chance.  Not long after, we found ourselves pretty much inseparable.   (and for the record, she’s now seen Nightwish twice, Within Temptation, and many others)   The Proposal:   Jess's Version-   On April 4 2012, I was sitting with the hatch open, in the trunk of my Subaru Forester, Rascal (yes, she has a name). I had the day off and was outside enjoying the beautiful weather, reading a book. Rob came home from work and sat with me for a moment. Then he went back to his car for something and I went back to my book for a brief moment. Rob came back and sat down next to me, and I put my book down. He said something along the lines of:   I know we have had a lot of stress and bad weather lately, so I'd been waiting for a sunny day to do this and decided that today is pretty much perfect. I love you very much."   Then he brought out a little white ring-box and somewhere between me grabbing it and him handing it to me, I now had the box in my hands. I opened the box to find the perfect ring for me. I said some sort of yes, or just put the ring on my finger, smiled and kissed him.   Rob's Version- I actually had the ring in my possession for the better part of a month. I know that jess is not the type of girl who'd react well to a grand public gesture, so I'd planned to go wandering with her on a beach somewhere.  It rained.  We didn't go.  We had a fight instead.  Such was our life that month: literal and figurative storm clouds were hanging over us. Then one day i came home from work to find her reading in the sun, in the open hatch of her car.  She looked happy.  Sitting down beside her I suddenly realized that this was that perfect moment for us.  A little silly, a little out of the ordinary, and perfect.  so I went and grabbed the ring.  I know I started with "I've been waiting for a sunny day..." but I don't really remember much after that besides lots of smiles and laughs we both really needed.
