No fondant?

Is anyone doing a cake minus fondant? I do not personally care for the taste and I can't fathom paying for something to then have it peeled off. Anyone on board with the no fondant?

I don't like fondant either but love the look of it. My baker does a marshamallow fondant that is pretty AND yummy!

All fondant isnt nasty. Purchased fondant yes. But homemade fondant such as marshamallow fondant or buttercream fondant is really good.

Definitely one of the first things FH and I agreed on, both of us hate the stuff. Thus we are having an ice cream wedding cake (which he loves) and also cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (which I love). And come on, who doesn't love ice cream or cupcakes?

We didn't do fondant either. It's more expensive and the taste is unappealing. Our bakery does a great job with the buttercream so we are confident that it will look nice.

I hate the stuff! My brother had it and I just didnt like the taste, makes beautiful cakes but not a nice after taste. We wont be using any on ours. The whole outside is covered in this hard white chocolate coating.

I used to hate fondant. However, my DIL has started taking on baking as a hobbie. She did a cake for DH that had fondant on it that was outstanding.

We had a carrot cake, so it was cream cheese frosting for us. It was perfect. Not too sweet and not too cream cheesey, but light.

    Cate is having all buttercream.

Love the ombre effect, I might have to steal that pick for inspiration.

We are probably doing cupcakes so no fondant on those. But if we do go with cake it will be butter cream.

We are having cupcakes with buttercream frosting, and I'm also considering doing a cake like the one pictured, for cutting and extra yumminess. It has layers of cake, buttercream, jam, and berries. It's very non-traditional, but I think it could look cute with our woodsy-lodge rustic elegance thing I have going.

Cupcakes, and possibly this cake, will be done by a friend who is completing baking/pastry school. Her buttercream is to die for!

The cake I want is butter cream icing but had cherry blossoms made of fondant, but our baker said they were easy to make out of icing.

Ok ladies I have a question for you.... FH and I don't really care for cake in general, so we were thinking about having a normal wedding cake but the layer that we cut into be a cheesecake but decorated the same as the rest of the cake. What do you all think??

I'm suprised to see how many people are not doing fondant! I love the look of it but FH hates the taste. It's not a huge deal because we're doing cake pops, but our top layer is a cake (for the cake topper of course!) and FH really wants rainbow chip icing. There's not much traditional about our wedding lol!

Nikki K, go for it! Mmm cheesecake is yummy!

We are having swiss buttercream, no fondant here either. Its very expensive and wasn't worth the extra cost because we do not like it anyway. Its vanilla cake and raspberry cream filling. Yum!

We are doing all butter cream too, the design we picked is perfect for that... The reason we picked it is because my FH hates fondant, the funny things is the baker we picked makes her own fondant and it's white chocolate fondant that taste much better than any other fondant I've tried (and I've made my own marshmallow fondant before)!!

    This is our design btw
