Is it okay to wear your rings when you wash your hands?

Amanda, on April 7, 2016 at 6:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 107

I've been taking off my white gold engagement ring when I wash my hands and shower but FH freaks out because he thinks I'll lose it, forget it, or drop it down the drain if I don't keep it on. So is it okay to wear your ring when you wash your hands and/or take a shower? What do you all do?

I usually remove mine. I have a few small jewelry holders stashed in the house. I put them in my pocket anywhere else.

Absolutely! I think the risk of them going down the drain is a lot bigger.

I rarely take off my rings. Only if I am going to do some heavy weightlifting at the gym or if I am going swimming in a pool or lake. I keep them on to wash dishes, shower,.. .everything else...

I can't imagine having to take them off EVERY time I washed my hands for the rest of my life.. lol

I take mine off when I wash my hands at home, when I take a shower, and when I go to bed. I have a cute ring holder at all my sinks!

If I'm in a public place I don't take it off to wash my hands because I don't want to accidentally lose it.

I leave mine on almost all the time. I'll take it off if I go swimming but that's about it!

I take it off when and put in my bra when I'm in public (sorry, TMI) but I feel like it's safer than my pocket. I have about 5 ring holders at home so it's usually on one when I'm in at home.

I keep it on when I wash my hands but I do take it off when I shower and when I sleep. I have a nice ring holder that I put it in.

I leave my rings on. I only take them off if I am working with raw meat (like making meatballs) or if I am coloring my hair (I dye it with an at home kit). My husband takes his ring off when he showers but he worries that one of our cats will take off with it (they have been known to knock it off the counter and chase it around the bathroom floor).

I leave mine on except when I take a shower and sleep. I wash my hands about 1000 times a day (teacher) so if I took it off every time I washed my hands, I wouldn't bother wearing it lol

I don't think soap is good for it but I'd rather not drop it down the drain. The only time I ever remove mine is when I'm doing hardcore cleaning. I know people who take it off every night and for every shower. I just feel like I would drop it and lose it!

I take it off when I wash my hands and take a shower. I don't have a plug on either drains so I'm terrified of it falling in.

I almost always leave the e-ring on. I *try* to remember to take it off at the gym, but I usually forget. I'm just so used to it being there!

I almost never take my ring off. I wash my hands 100 times a day I work in healthcare and I never remove my rings when I wash my hands shower clean... Only time I take them off is when I put lotion on and it goes right back on.

I only take it off to go to the gym (my band is platinum and scratches easily), put lotion on and to shower. I only take it off to shower because I find it slightly annoying to wash my hair with the ring on. I leave it on for washing the dishes or my hands, especially when I'm not at home.

I feel like many of you need to get your rings resized if you're afraid of them falling off?

I almost never take mine off. Only time 8t comes off is when I'm putting on lotion or if I'm cooking with meet like making patties or meatloaf.

I only take my rings off at the gym, at nighttime (my hands swell, and I don't want the rings to get stuck), and pretty much every time I shower. I keep them on when I'm washing my hands and doing most stuff around the house; if I'm working with cleaners, I'll either take them off or wear gloves, but other than that my rings are tough enough to withstand most activities

I very very rarely take off my rings. Pretty much only to clean with harsh chemicals and when preparing raw meat.

I take my diamond off - or wear gloves - only when working with raw meat (meatballs, handling chicken, etc) or wash my cast iron pots. I've been told by my family jeweler that shampoo removes accumulated oils and dirt from rings exactly as it does from hair, so it's a great way to keep them clean and sparkly!

I take my ring off when I walk in the door from work because I'm scared to lose it. If you use bar soap I'd take it off when you're showering, it gets stuck in the crevices

I take my ring off when I shower, when I swim, and when I lift at the gym. Otherwise, it always stays on! I even keep it on when I sleep because I'm worried I'll forget to put it back on in the morning.
