Is it okay to wear your rings when you wash your hands?

I've been taking off my white gold engagement ring when I wash my hands and shower but FH freaks out because he thinks I'll lose it, forget it, or drop it down the drain if I don't keep it on. So is it okay to wear your ring when you wash your hands and/or take a shower? What do you all do?

I remove mine. It's silver so it will tarnish easily. I have a little dish on the kitchen counter I put it in while I wash dishes or cook something messy. I do wear it to just wash my hands, but I don't wear it into the shower. I leave it in the dresser and when I get dressed I put it back on. I wouldn't leave it just by the sink though, unless it's in a dish! It's just a habit to get into, that's all.

I take mine off when I shower, wash dishes, put on lotion, or doing something generally dirty.

I take my ring off to shower. Only because it easily slides off when it's wet & it gets in the way when I shower. But for normal hand washing, no. I do however take it off when I wash my hands at the nail salon with the bath salts oils stuff lol

I take mine off when I'm sleeping, washing greasy dishes, taking a shower, using lotion and walking in a bad neighborhood. Trust me my little brother told me crazy people might cut my finger.

I took off my ring when I did anything. Slept, showered, washed my hands... For the first month I would say. I was told by everyone to stop and that the ring would be fine and I am just risking losing it. I finally got over it and wear it 24/7.

Don't wear your ring to paint, or garden. Those are my only donts so far!

I take mine off when I shower, wash dishes, clean and handle meat. General hand washing I leave it on and I sleep with it on also.

Wearing your ring when washing your hands is fine, but if it's a little loose on your finger, I would be cautious, I had to take apart the pipe once to get my mom's ring that fell down the drain. Here's a little guide of things that you should avoid while wearing a ring.

I take mine off at night, sometimes for work (I'm a nurse and have to take gloves on and off and wear hand sanitizer all day), and at the gym. I just want to treat it nicely.

When I first got it, I was terrified. But I have gotten so used to it now. I don't ever take it off-not to wash my hands or to shower or even sleep. Only to clean it and then it goes right back on. But I have a very modest ring..so maybe I would feel differently with Karen G's $20K ring on my finger....

At home, I take them off. In public, they stay on no matter what. Too many horror stories of them being lost. When I first got engaged, I would take it off all the time to wash my hands but over time, I realized that I could just clean them if it got dingy.

Your rings are safer on your finger than on a bathroom counter (especially a public one).

I take them off shower and do dishes. If I am just washing my hands quick I don't take them off.

I would suggest putting a little bowl on the dresser in the bedroom or something like that and always put your rings there if you are taking them off.

That way they are not near a drain and you always know where they are.

I only take mines off when I shower at home only because my drain is large. Otherwise I'm very careful when doing other stuff such as washing the dishes, lotioning, etc.

The only time I take mine off is when I'm washing dishes or using cleaners.

This may put alot of your fears and concerns to rest... Do some research on your ring, as I imagine different metals can withstand different circumstances....but overall, I'd say alot of you are removing your ring unnecessarily. In fact I keep mine on while washing my hands because it removes and grime or dirt collecting. I also use a soft toothbrush to get into areas I can't access. The more you remove it, the greater your chances are of losing it. Check out this link below.

I take mine off when I'm doing stuff around the house, dishes etc and when I go in the shower but that's it.

Now that I think about it I don't at work or anywhere else. Don't trust it I guess.

The jeweler told me to remove them when I wash my hands, shower, etc she said the chemicals in the soap can mess up the prongs with time.
