I interviewed a couple of photographers and stopped at David. He struck me as someone who really enjoyed taking wedding photos. The first meeting with David went so well that my fiancee and I decided to pay cancellation fee to the photographer she had chosen before.

The complimentary engagement session turned out to be not about engaging us to wedding, but about engaging the photographer and us. The session went nicely and David was good at bringing the best out of everybody. We framed one of the photos from this session for the poster at the wedding reception.

On the wedding day, David took our photos at the hotel, in the park, and at the reception/dinner venue. He engaged the guests very well. At that time the guests only told us that the photographer was a nice guy. But a few weeks later when they saw the photos, they marveled at the pictures and asked how we go such a great photographer.

Well, it was our luck. We were truly blessed that a random search at the wedding photographer site wpja.com worked out this well. Hm, not just luck, we did our due diligence and we talked to David and we looked at the portfolio he brought to the interview and we asked about his equipment and I toured his wed site. But the deciding factor for us was that David is a very likable person and his enthusiasm has a positive impact on everybody around.

So it was an informed decision made during a random walk. Now I share my experience with the public, so other people's walk will be less random.

The service overall, from photo quality to communications to delivery, was superior.

Unbelievable photographer!! David is based out of NYC, and we just LOVED him! He was non invasive, and half the time we didn't even know he was there.

We feel SO lucky to have found him.

I have had the pleasure of working with David on several occasions and can honestly say that his level of professionalism is second to none. David has a way of blending in with the scene and capturing every precious moment while you almost forget that he's even there, and yet he is also a great director when he needs to be. If you want to hire one of the best wedding photographers with a photojournalistic style but cannot afford it, David is your answer.

David was great! We couldn't have had a better photographer. He just did his job and we just enjoyed our night, it was that simple! We really enjoyed his wonderful personality and we just felt comfortable around him. We liked the fact that he took the time out to get to know us as individuals as well as a couple and worked that into his style. We would recommend him to anyone. He knows his stuff and believe me for all the uncertainty that is out there David is the best choice.

There is a reason photos from my wedding will not be posted as David's best work on any of the websites he advertises his services. The reason is simple: 50% of the pictures are out of focus or of poor quality; about 40% of them are pictures of our guests; and David was more preoccupied with socializing with my wedding guests than with photography during my wedding. As such, David missed some of the most important moments of my big day: 1. The kiss at the altar; 2. The bride walking down the isle; 3. The bouquet toss; 4. The whole cocktail hour. Despite the fact that I gave David a list of pictures I wanted taken the day of the wedding before the big day, he did not deliver. He failed to perform the most elementary duties as a photographer such as align the members of my family for the family portrait shots. David did not take a single picture of me and my husband that I would care to print and put on a coffee table. Most importantly, David was extremely hard to reach before, during and after the wedding. He did not give us a cell phone number where he could be reached. He also had trouble coming up with the 500 agreed upon pictures after the wedding. (Just to give you an idea, a family guest (not even a close relative) gave us a CD with 300 pictures he took during our wedding). Mainly, David complained that he had not charged us enough for his services (mind you we paid him exactly the price quoted on his web site) and felt justified not to do his work.

P.S. The photographer simply went missing for most of the cocktail hour and the rest of the night. If the wedding guests successfully captured some great moments of the wedding, there was no reason for David to miss them all.

    David Myles Photography's reply:

As far as something out of focus I would say the Bride and Groom requested artistic. Part of my style is to use a very wide aperture (F1.8) and have selective focus. Another technique, which is to show motion, is called dragging the shutter. I try to photograph each wedding in a unique fashion. I make this clear to the client that I create during the wedding and this couple was enthusiastic about creative photography. I am truly sorry if my photographic vision was not what this couple had in mind.

As far as any complaints about photographing in the Church. I was made to sign an agreement that I would stand outside of the pews and not use flash before or during the ceremony. I told the couple what lens I was going to use - a 70-200 2.8 and what they could expect. The wedding started an hour and a half late and at that point everything was a big rush.

Anything to do with me not being there for photos. The reception ran late. When I was finally served a dinner I noticed from 2 rooms away that the music had stopped playing. I had a feeling something was going on and to my astonishment the bridal party was giving speeches and toasts. That was the way the night was going. The wedding started late and the bouquet toss was somewhere past my contracted time.
