Located in Alexandria, Virginia, the world-famous Torpedo Factory Art Center is one of the few Potomac River waterfront special events venues that boasts a rich, illustrious history with breathtaking views of the Potomac River and our Nation’s Capital. True to its name, the Torpedo Factory Art Center once was an actual torpedo factory! The Mark XIV green torpedo currently displayed in the main hall was produced here in 1945 and has since been photographed with thousands of Brides and Grooms. In 1974, the Torpedo Factory Art Center opened to the public. For forty years, artists have worked by day to create one of a kind pieces in their studios and by night we transform our three-tiered, industrial facility to create one of a kind special events and weddings that reflect our clients’ unique vision.

Facilities and Capacity

This Old Town landmark is a perennial special event favorite because the building hosts the works of the most talented national and international artisans from all mediums. Every aspect of the Torpedo Factory Art Center is as remarkable as the artists and their creations. With cylindrical columns, canary yellow hanging lights, electric blue weaved steel railings and a dramatic two-story atrium that can be overlooked by a balcony and two catwalks… this art studio is also a bonified piece of art. The spacious main hall is an ideal location for events and can comfortably host up to 220 seated guests, 700 standing, and 400 for lecture seating (without tables). The striking three-story building retains its identity in daylight as a former factory with exposed pipes, ductwork, and a smokestack, but by night the building becomes the guest’s canvas and transforms into their artistic vision.

Services Offered

Nationally recognized as one of America's Top Art Places, with a "backbone of creative culture... [that is] exceptionally successful at combining art, artists, and venues for creativity and expression” has made the Torpedo Factory Arts Center one of the most sought-after special event venues. In addition to the lore and celebrated art for special events guests to enjoy, it easily partners with outside vendors (décor, lighting, catering sound, DJ, bands) wireless Internet, restrooms on each floor, and parking that is wheelchair accessible and can accommodate a shuttle van. Event set up is between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. and the facility must be restored to the original state and vacated by 1:00 a.m.

Only minutes from Washington D.C. and Reagan National Airport, your visit to Old Town Alexandria promises to be an unforgettable experience. Named the #1 Best Value U.S. Travel Destination 2018 by Money magazine and one of the South’s Prettiest Cities 2018 by Southern Living. A nationally designated historic district founded in 1749 that George Washington called home, Old Town Alexandria hums with more than 200 independent restaurants and boutiques alongside intimate historic museums and new happenings at the waterfront. We got married on 9/15/2018 at the Torpedo Factory and I have to say, this venue blew us away. Being an artist myself, I just absolutely geeked out at having our wedding in an art gallery. My husband loved the factory and industrial feel juxtaposed with the gorgeous lighting and ambiance that transformed the space into a wedding venue.

The event coordinator, Shai, was so incredibly responsive and supportive throughout the whole planning process. She was present during our walk through and answered any and all questions we may have had. She was immediately responsive to emails and so incredibly professional in all that she did. When we were deciding on the venue, she even let us stop by to see another wedding setup to help us make our decision.

The Torpedo Factory has tons of space making a wedding of 100 feel very comfortable and evenly spread out. While it is a bit of a different space, I think that brought a unique vibe to our wedding, which we absolutely loved. Having the entire building was so wonderful. The mezzanine upstairs allowed for guests to spread out to watch our first dance from above, which was SO cool. Talk about awesome photo ops! The TFAC is just so incredibly iconic and placed right on the water. Also, sunset photos on the dock were just the icing on the cake during our cocktail hour!

There are so many wedding venues out there that just want to take your money and run. I must say, the Torpedo Factory is not that. They were well worth every penny and even gave us a discount since my full-time gig is at a non-profit. Not a lot of places do that. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an Old Town Alexandria wedding venue.

The Torpedo Factory was initially to serve as our cocktail hour and reception venue. We tented the patio through Sammy’s Rentals for cocktail hour and held the reception indoors. TFAC was wonderful every step of the way. When we needed to postpone our wedding due to personal issues, they went out of their way to make it easy for us. Ultimately, it rained heavily the week before our wedding, so we had to move our ceremony under the tent as well. Shai from TFAC was wonderful to work with and helped us work through the changes. When the wedding at TFAC on Friday night decided that they did not want the tent during their wedding, and we had to move the tent set-up to Saturday afternoon before our wedding that evening, TFAC offered to reimburse us for any fees incurred with the Saturday tent inspection. Everything went very smoothly, and we strongly recommend TFAC.

The Torpedo Factory is a fantastic place for a wedding, it's VERY cool and VERY modern-looking. They have their own in-house lighting crew, and I'm always impressed with the way they are able to turn the space into a very striking setting!

Looking for a unique venue? The Torpedo Factory is where it's at! I love this venue because it's in the heart of Old Town Alexandria (convenient to hotels, parking garages, the waterfront, restaurants, etc), is affordable, is HUGE for being a relatively historic property, and best of all is one-of-a-kind. Where else in the DC area will you find an industrial-looking art center? With the lighting package from John Farr, this spot really turns into a beautiful and completely unique space. I guarantee your guests will be talking about for years to come. It beats any hotel ballroom, hands down. Give Tara a call and go check it out! Be sure to look at the photos of the space with's a completely different feel than during the day when it's open to the public.
