Dream Wedding Venue!

I can’t fully describe what a dream it was to have our wedding at Planet Word! It was such a unique, visually beautiful venue that really felt like “us” (as two self-proclaimed nerds who enjoy puns, writing, etc) and I honestly can’t believe we were able to get married in such an amazing museum.

Venue: The venue itself is gorgeous - lots of wood details, rafters, arches that creates an academic, classic feel. We held our ceremony in the Mansard Room and Reception in the Grand Hall (with beautiful chandelier). There was more than enough space for our ~130 person wedding and it was also quite functional. For instance, there’s space outside Mansard Room for gift table/coat check; a private lounge on 3rd floor for bridal party to stow away in; etc. My favorite part is that it really encapsulated my partner and my personalities and gave a tremendous jumping off point for creativity. Inspired by the venue, we had authors as table numbers, library cards as escort cards, etc. We have yet to get our full wedding photo suite back, but the museum itself also offers so many unique photo backgrounds!

Museum: Our guests loved going through the galleries during cocktail hour. Guests were able to use the SAT photobooth and the video recording booths so they could send personal video messages to us - kind of like a built-in video guest book. (which saved us from paying for a photobooth). I will note that “gallery time” is an additional cost and food/drinks are not allowed in the galleries. As such, guests did have to choose somewhat between eating/drinking and perusing the galleries. However, there seemed to be enough time for both during the cocktail hour.

Tech: lighting and sound equipment were included for the ceremony (Mansard Room) - which all worked perfectly on the day. There were additional perks like being able to use the TV monitors to display our seating chart (saving us from having to print), customizing the chandelier colors in the reception hall, etc.

Team: Nick, Arsema, and the rest of the PW team were incredible. Always communicative before the wedding and especially helpful on the wedding weekend. Nick helped us troubleshoot all of the tech during the rehearsal so we could play our own music for the ceremony, for example. They sent a comprehensive checklist to organize the schedule beforehand that really satisfied my type A brain and made me confident things would run smoothly day-of. They were very generous with their time and resources; we never felt like they were squeezing us for money. Thank you to the whole team!

Tldr: We are still buzzing three weeks later from a perfect wedding day. We feel so lucky to have had our wedding at Planet Word, at a historic building, in the heart of DC. We would highly recommend to any couple, especially those who love language, poetry, libraries, etc.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
