About

Wilhelm Gottenbusch, a German immigrant, came to the United States after traveling around the world on an international freighter. In 1963, Wilhelm opened his first bakery on Observatory Avenue in Hyde Park. In a one man shop, with a bakery in the back, he made a name for himself by focusing on one thing- quality. Focusing on the quality of his products, Wilhelm and his sons have expanded and grown over the last 50 years.

Wilhelm brought the traditions of his father and grandfather over from Muenster, Germany. His grandfather, George, started out driving a horse drawn wagon door to door selling his fresh baked goods. Wilhelm’s father, George, attended Germany’s most recognizable baking school and received his “Konditor Meister” status – Master Pastry Chef. His father opened Café Servatii, on Servatii Platz, in the heart of Muenster, Germany. Wilhelm followed in his father’s footsteps by earning his “Master Baker” status and starting his own business in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Wilhelm’s sons Gary and Greg have both apprenticed in Germany earning their journeyman status –Greg in pastry and Gary in baking. Gary continued in his father and grandfather’s footsteps by earning his Master Baker certification in 2001. In turn, the Gottenbusch’s have acquired some of the most talented bakers, decorators and pastry chefs in America. All together they work to uphold the values set forth by Wilhelm Gottenbusch 50 years ago.

Servatiis did such an amazing job on my wedding cake! Not only were they able to create a beautiful wedding cake design from my vision the cake was so delicious! We got three different layers with different flavored cakes and fillings and it did not cost extra. All of them tasted so good! They were also very reasonably priced. The bakers that worked with us were so kind and did everything they could to make my vision happen. Thank you for making my wedding day so special!

Servatii makes the best pretzels I've ever had, and serves them at cocktail hour alongside their famous Bistro Sauce and Beer Cheese, and these disappeared as soon as they were put out, eaten by very enthusiastic guests. (In fact, one of our guests even swiped one of our containers of Bistro Sauce during the party, because he was so enamored with its flavor....) We just knew their pretzels would one of the hits of our wedding reception and we weren't wrong!

Servatii did a spectacular job with the custom cakes, desserts, petit-fours, cookie favors, and pretzels for my wedding. I had asked for everything to be based off folk art (embroidery, porcelain, etc.) that I've grown up around my whole life, and they delivered, and THEN SOME!

I couldn't believe my wedding cakes were actually edible confections because their pastry chef made them look EMBROIDERED. I wish I could post pictures here of the beautiful work they did. All of our guests were absolutely floored by the presentation of the dessert table, and everything that was displayed on it. Not only was everything unbelievably gorgeous, but they tasted divine... I wasn't surprised to see zero barely-touched plates, and despite over-ordering on dessert, barely any leftovers at the end of the night.

The best part of this Servatii story was that these traveled by car 12 hours from Cincinnati to their ultimate destination in South Jersey, and the team at Servatii had helped packed these treasures so carefully and with enough dry ice so that they were immaculate and pristine upon arrival.

RUN, don't walk, to Servatii Pastry Shop, if you want to wow your wedding guests!! Their service and food is fantastic.

White Chocolate Mouse Torte is the way to go! And we had it at our wedding too :) Pricing is great, and the cake is just as good as the bigger name shops in Cincinnati. The cake planners will try to do anything you want too!
