At the heart of this intimate wedding destination is its rustic 200 year old bank barn ideal for elopements, weddings, and receptions. Facilities and Capacity
As you approach Greener Pastures Family Farm, the historic Big Red Barn stands poised and proud to greet guests. Situated in the heart of the South Mountain Corridor, you are enveloped in nature and instantly feel secluded from the outside world. The view of South Mountain, the trickling sounds of Little Antietam Creek and the tree lined pastures with happily grazing cows put you right at ease.
The Big Red Barn is a glorious historic backdrop. Its true rustic charm and character are unmatched. Once inside, the barn is characterized by three large spaces that are naturally well lit with light that pours in through the enormous barn doors, windows and doors. Views of South Mountain and open pasture invite guests to an unforgettable time. The barn door opening is appointed with floor to ceiling white linen drapery to frame events or to be tied back, letting in the view of pastures and neighboring barns. The barn can comfortably accommodate up to 100 family and friends for the most memorable event.
Couples can choose to add their own special appointments to the space as well as use the expansive grounds between the barn and main farm house. Decor, china, flatware, and cake packages are also available. The wrap-around, farmhouse porch with southern style and charm creates the perfect place for beverage and appetizer service or even your ceremony!
The circular driveway surrounds a grassy area for lounging under a tent or the unending blue skies and the pool patio and fire pit beckens socializing, lawn games, and relaxing with guests.
Mini, Micro, and Elopement style weddings are perfect on any part of the grounds, but the formal dining room or the expansive reception room are perfect places for the no nonsense ceremony that provides a deeply meaningful atmosphere with 2-30 of your family and friends. Mrs. Jacqueline Piro is the owner, wedding planner, venue coordinator, and lead Officiant with The VOWS Eternal located on property too.
As night approaches the pinks, oranges, and blues that light the farm are transformative. String lights highlight the 200 year old barn rafters and various outdoor lighting arrangements highlight the farm’s nighttime allure.

Proximity and History
Dulles International Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Airport, and Reagan National Airport are within an hour of the farm and Interstates 81, 70, and 270 surround the farm, making access by car a breeze.
This farm is part of the original Shiffler estate located across the country lane established in the very early 1800s. Built around their business, the Washington Marble Quarry Company, a Shiffler family member expanded the homestead by building the Big Red Barn, small log section of the Creekside Farm Cottage, large stone summer kitchen/meat smokehouse, the two story four bay log home and two story four bay brick addition all around 1850. At some point, the log section was encased in brick and a two story addition was built onto the small log section of the Creekside Farm Cottage. Through the years, this farm has hosted dairy cows as well as fields of corn and wheat. Its previous owners, Lt. Gen. James Abrahamson and Susan Abrahamson completed the last of the major renovations and large addition of a primary suite and kitchen/family room on the back of the original log portion of the home. The Big Red Barn is considered a salt style bank barn because of its different roof pitch in comparison to traditional bank barns. The historic towns of Sharpsburg, the site of Antietam National Battlefield Park and Historic Harpers Ferry National Park are both located within close proximity for those guests who find delight and interest in history.
