Not your average wedding DJ:
I'm a songwriter and musician first. Psyche and Garagerock to be specific. After so many college parties where my indie/emo friends put on depressing music, I eventually took over the iTunes playlist. Next thing I know, we're throwing 100+ person dance parties on the regular in 2007. Seeing the power of good, fun music first hand, I taught myself how to DJ using a mixer and two decks and began my career as a nightlife DJ. Everything was about song selection and artistic mix-craft. In 2014, a kind wedding photographer convinced me that my skills, style and taste were in growing demand at weddings as Millenials starting getting married. She assured me that the tropes of cheesy wedding/event DJs that we were used to were a passing phase, and that the way that I mixed would be a welcome treat for people our age.
If you're looking for someone to pass out inflatable novelties and be a total cheeseball on the mic... I'm not your guy. If you're looking for a craftsman who just happens to perform at weddings while building a career in live music and performance... Hi, I'm Cookie Policy!
If you want top 40 music, I'll crush it. If you want indie, psyche, old school hip hop, funk, soul disco and the like... I'll leave your guests gushing over the fact that you had "an ACTUAL DJ" to performe at your wedding, over breakfast the next morning.

As for the day of the event, Brett was great at navigating our unusual order of events, and helpful in keeping things running on schedule. And then there was dancing. Our dance party was epic, and that was largely due to Brett. He did a masterful job weaving songs we had selected, songs he intuited we'd like, and guest requests. Also, he admirably dealt with the guests who were requesting songs on our do not play list, neither playing the song nor upsetting the guest.
Tldr; Brett is a champion. Hire Brett.
Epic dance party
We had an intimate 45 person wedding in Providence, RI in a private restaurant setting. Music was one of the most important parts of our day, as we wanted a killer dance party after an intimate dinner. 3 weeks later, our guests are still talking about what a great time they had- and how great of a job he did!
Cocktail hour music and music during dinner was PERFECT--His song choices made us feel like we somehow knew Brett all of our lives; it was as if he tapped into our brains and played exactly what we would have played. After dinner he had the task of moving his equipment from the bar area to the dining room after dinner to create a dance floor. Along with the restaurant staff, this was done seamlessly. It was like they did this every weekend. There was suddenly a disco ball and an epic build up, and then Bowie's "let's dance". People danced all night.
You can tell Brett has a lot of experience, and he is great at what he does. He was friendly and engaging with guests. Brett was very responsive, always in a timely manner. I want to get married again/repeat the day, just to relive that dance party. thank you thank you thank you!
My musical soulmate
I guess what made Brett such a great fit for us was our mutual obsession with music- good dance music to be a bit more specific. My husband and I wanted someone who was willing to think outside the box as far as dance music was concerned. We had a non-traditional, black-tie wedding ( no sit down meal, cocktail party style), and while we hired a violin trio as well as a pianist, we wanted to add an epic dance party element to the second half of our event. It was just that, and more. We chose to leave out the usual wedding dancefloor songs because, well, it's expected. (and we can't stand them)
Brett is organized, efficient, and so effortlessly cool that my husband and I want him to be our lifelong friend. He came to our house a few weeks before the wedding to go over all the details and get a better feel for our expectations for the night. We were on the exact same page.
Once he started his set, I never left the room. There were some "soul circles" , a serenade from a very drunk bride to her groom, and the night closed out with Mazzy Star's "fade into you". IT WAS MAGIC. Brett trusted that I knew what my guests would dance to, and he pretty much touched on every genre/artist we had gone over with him.
It was obviously the best night of our lives, and he had so much t do with that! WE LOVE YOU BRETT!
