Whether capturing the athletic, the artistic, the living landscape or the look of contemplation on a thoughtful face, Carla Phillips' photographs probe the subtle power of her subjects. Distinctly minimalistic, she has a gift for seeing the force of energy within each of us that compels us to express ourselves: as we pick up a surfboard and tackle the ocean, as we explore new continents through the eyes of a vivacious child, or when we pause to notice the details that make us quirky individuals, from red nail polish to that tattoo only your girlfriend has seen.

Since she bought her first Nikon FE 2 with manual film at the age of 15, Carla has been driven to connect with others through sharing her photography. Most of her work consists of portraits, documentary, lifestyle, travel, and events. Currently she is compiling a collection of New York City surf photographs for a book and exhibition.

Over the years Carla has transitioned from working as a stylist, publicist and fashion director to attending the International Center for Photography where she studied Documentary and Digital Photography. She went on to work closely with highly inspiring photographers such as Miles Aldridge, Michele Comte, Walter Chin, and Matt Gunther. For the past 6 years Carla has shot for nonprofit organizations and clients such as I-to-I nonprofit, Ghurka, L'Uomo Vogue, Furla, Soma Magazine, Mix Mag, Help.U.S.A, Ray Ban, Ralph Lauren Eyewear and Bloomingdales.

Carla is a life long native of New York City raised by European/Latin Parents, when not working loves spending time with her dog "Mugsy", surfing, practicing yoga, traveling, volunteering and enjoying the little things about life.
