The laws and requirements for getting a marriage license are different for each state. You need to google them for the state you are getting married in. For example, some require a blood test and some do not. I am getting married in PA so we both have to go in person to the courthouse and it costs a flat $40, there is no way around that. Find out what your state requires and go from there

I don't live in CA, so I am not 100% sure but according to this website http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/Pages/MarriageLicenseceremonygeneralinfo.aspx You don't need a blood test, you can use it the same day you get it and I think it will cost 50-80$.

Contact your local clerk of court's office for more definitive answers.

In the state of Pennsylvania, a marriage license is good for 60 days. There is also a 3 day waiting period once you apply and it is up to you if you want to go back and pick it up in 3 days or they can mail it to you.

I my situation, my FH lives in a different county and I was very surprised as to the huge price difference from county to county. In his county of residence it is $40 whereas if we just cross the border to the next county, it is only $30. Do some research and you can save some money.
