Don't spend what you cannot afford...
After watching my fair share of "Say yes to the dress", "Bridezilla" and David Tutera's "My Fair Wedding", I realized just how much these shows promote the idea that brides should have lavish and extravagant weddings, and dresses. They also imply that it's all about the bride and she should have her "fairy tale wedding". Well, I don't like the fact that they promote the idea that even of you cannot afford these things you should have it because "every bride deserves it, so you should have it too"...

It honestly drives me crazy when I hear this. Weddings are supposed to be about a union between two people, it's not just about the bride, it's not about the dress.... keep reading here:

Congratulations!!! I agree with you that you should not spend what you can't afford. There are always ways that you can find a gorgeous dress for your wedding. I myself ended up wearing a bridesmaid dress for my wedding because we were getting married in Maui and I started shopping in June. All I found were heavy dresses with trains that would get dirty. Don't let anyone tell you what you want. Go with your gut. When you find the right dress, you'll know. Mary Beth

AMEN!

Some of the brides on those shows make me just scratch my head.

I'm all for the fairy tale themes, but I think you still need a healthy dose of reality.

After all, once the planning and the party is over, it's back to 'real life', which is often times not as glamerous!

Just by keeping it real and being creative, I think people can have the feeling of the wedding they want without having the monetary issues afterwards.

Don't they say most married couples fight over money? Why set yourself up for a fall?

I would also like to take this time to thank my parents for raising me right and keeping me in line when I needed it!

I think if some of these 'Bridezillas' had that type of tough love in their lives, they wouldn't be that way and they'd be a whole lot happier!
