Leg scarring + desert wedding = tough times

HvR, on September 19, 2024 at 3:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9

Hey all:

My wedding is coming up in a few weeks and it looks like Vegas hasn't cooled down a whole lot. We're looking at a high of around 90F for our wedding day. Originally I had hoped for ten degrees cooler, which would allow me to wear tights without it being a heat issue. Now, it's not looking all that doable.

I'm not concerned about my legs being seen for the ceremony at two, but for the evening reception I am removing my wedding skirt and wearing the knee length dress underneath. Problem is as much as I love this dress, I have some pretty dark scars on my shins and calves from a past medical issue.

I am wondering what to do about this. I have 40 denier stockings but the scars are still visible and there's no way I'll be comfortable in them all day. Do I go higher in denier (opaqueness) on the stockings and put them on at the reception when I lose my skirt, or does anyone have any other suggestions for covering the scars, with or without pantyhose?

I've been looking into those tattoo covers on Amazon which are like flesh colored temporary tattoos themselves, but I have no idea if they're good enough in quality to last the day without doing some weird bunching up right when the legs are showing. Ideally, the leg coverage is something I can do early in the day and just leave. I just don't know what would work. Thanks in advance.

You can try spray-on leg makeup.

Sorry, need other options. Spray on makeup has historically melted right off me and stained whatever is nearby.. is it worth risking staining my dress?

Can you try some patterned styles? Maybe the pattern will distract or blend in with the scars. Also, Bing AI returned this option: Skin-Tone Tights: Brands like Falke or Wolford offer nude tights

I like the combination of both make-up and sheer, even patterned, tights to keep your clothes fresh. Dermablend is effective with scars. Add a setting powder? before tights? Other posters may have tattoo cover make-up recommendations as well. I also have seen sheer ivory polkadot tights if you'd like a little funky texture to your ensemble. Or you can go as your natural self. I know your guests will be focused on your smiles, beauty, and romantic happiness and less so on any flaws. And certainly they'll be focused on each other and having fun in LV with you!

For your wedding day, if you're worried about covering scars in the heat, higher denier stockings are a good option for added coverage. You can also look into leg makeup or concealers designed for scars, which provide long-lasting coverage without needing pantyhose. Products like Dermablend or airbrush leg makeup can be applied early and last throughout the day. Tattoo covers may work, but test them beforehand to ensure they stay smooth. Combining makeup with lightweight stockings might give you both comfort and coverage.

They have glitter opaque tights that could look really good! That way you're not only covering your scars, but you're also making a fashion statement! Similarly, lace tights could also look good. I found these ones on Amazon, and they're like eyelet, which is very summery. They're also thin while still being fairly opaque, so it would probably be comfortable in the heat.

I actually found what I needed on Amazon as well! There were some cute textured faux garter tights which should be additionally breathable with my shapewear. I might put some scar patches over the spots in a couple bad places, just for extra coverage (I found a brand on Amazon that seems to hold position all day, so that's promising!).

Thank you all for the amazing feedback. I'll share pics after the big day if it was a success Smiley heart
