We used Jewel Hospitality and got married at Top of the Market in Pike Place Market. I would totally recommend not only the venue, but the whole package. Marcia, Kristin and Rochelle were all friendly and helpful and the food was FANTASTIC!! We went with dinner stations, a unique alternative to the standard buffet! If you're looking for an intimate, beautiful, Seattle wedding...Top of the Market is perfect. We had 83 guests, 2 photographers, a DJ, 3 food stations, a bar, a beverage table and a photo booth and it all felt intimate yet there was still plenty of room!

The Canal is the perfect setting for a sophisticated Seattle event. The venue is unique in that it has both indoor and outdoor spaces. The earthtones and copper, as well as the soft lines lend a warmth to the indoor spaces that is lacking in many other venues. Guests told us they really felt like they were in Seattle here -- one of our goals when planning a wedding in the Pacific Northwest. The food was fantastic, the space interesting and inviting, and overall the staff was good to work with. Our only complaints included too few chairs being set up for our ceremony, too few waitstaff to get the dinner served at a reasonable pace, and our cutting cake being thrown away and not saved for us as we had requested.

When I was planning my wedding I worked in the catering business and because of the beautiful location of The Canal I could not use my own company (which would have saved money) Because they are their exclusive caterer. Well ...beware of them OVERCHARGING you. Make sure you see your MENU before SIGNING THE CONTRACT! If you ask for an itemized price per item they will NOT give it to you... The owner of the company got involved and basically told us that this is how it was and they do not divulge this information. Our wedding was Tapas and for the min of $43.95 per head we were getting a veggie tray, chicken skewers, prawn skewers, Watermelon Gazpacho shooters, fruit tray and Black beans. I am sorry but for $43.95 that does not sound like enough food. So all we were asking was a line item so that we knew what cost more and ask for subsitutions. Well they offered no help and no advice for substitutions. She was very nice but it would take her weeks to email you back.....people on my wedding day informed me that the passed champgane we paid for was not passed as people walked in and no chairs were set up 30 min before wedding so family friends were setting up the chairs!

All the drama of them threatening to sue us because of our requests made the wedding planning horrible. As if you as the bride doesnt have enough drama to deal with as is.. You dont want your catering company and venue harassing you.....

At the end of the day I say wait until another catering company is allowed to go to The Canal and then I am sure you will have a wonderful wedding day! BUT DO NOT BOOK any VENUES that Jewel Catering our exclusive to our your wedding day will be misery..

Jewel Hospitality responded with the following comments:

We are writing in response to the review from "Red". As can be seen from the other reviews of both The Canal and Jewel Catering there is a significant difference between her experience and the experience of other guests. Less than 1% of our clients raise substantial concerns regarding either the venue, food or service provided by Jewel Hospitality and Jewel Catering. We want all of our customers to be happy with their experience and take all concerns seriously. For additional reviews please see http://cityvoter.com/seattle-wa/weddings under venues. In fact, the review for the wedding reception held on July 4th during the daytime hours prior to “Red’s” wedding, is worth reading for balance. They were extremely pleased.
We have reviewed all of the documentation relating to the event and unfortunately "Red" is either wrong or is relaying only half the story. We would like to set the record straight. We have over 45 years of collective experience in the catering business and our experience is that few, if any, caterers provide the kind of information she requested. As she was working for another caterer at the time (we understand that she is no longer in the catering business) we believed that what she was asking for was not appropriate. "Red" neglected to mention 55% of the menu when she listed the menu items. She neglected to include items such as Pulled Pork Sliders, Jerk Salmon Skewers, Four Cheese Quesadillas, Maduros Sweet Plantains and individual Cuban Sandwiches. Contemporaneous notes from the event indicate that there was plenty of food that was thoroughly enjoyed by all the guests.
There was never a threat to sue anyone on our part. The only threat was the groom's implying that if we didn't provide the requested information he would "escalate the conflict". We merely pointed out that they had signed a contract and what was being asked for was not part of the contract. We would also note that their request occurred in early March relating to a July wedding. All correspondence between March and the wedding was not only cordial but "Red" brought us a cake to show her appreciation of our services, shortly after our response in March.
We regret that "Red" felt it necessary to post such a review. We believe that a more thorough review of all comments relating to Jewel Hospitality, Jewel Catering and our venues will give a more balanced view of our services and food. While we are not perfect, we have a long history of customer satisfaction with the standards we uphold. We strive to create happy memorable occasions and we are proud of our outstanding reputation in the hospitality industry.

Our guests really got a kick out of our unique appetizers and fingerfoods! Had very unique, international foods that highlighted our backgrounds.
