Camp Mary Orton was such an awesome venue for my wedding and reception! The land and lodge was rustic and beautiful for my fall wedding. Having the flexibility to be inside or outside was great and the staff was so helpful and flexible with my requests!

PROS: Total freedom to do whatever you want.
CONS: You pretty much have to do it all yourself (or arrange for people to help you). Also, no AC or heating.

CMO is a great, flexible outdoor venue with an attached lodge in case there is rain (and there was)! The field outside is lovely, there are brand new bathrooms, and the lodge is beautiful with white globe lanterns already in place, so you can save money on decorating too! The only real downside to the place is that there's no air conditioning, but even in July it was not horrible, and there were lots of fans on-site to keep people cool. A September or October wedding would be perfect in a place like this, and when we picked dates, the coordinator told us that all the Sept/Oct dates were already filled up--in January! So get on the scheduling quick.

Since CMO is not a "wedding" venue (all the money from renting out the grounds goes to putting on summer camp for inner-city children), you don't have to go through any 'preferred vendors' for alcohol, catering, and entertainment. This can save you a lot of money! I should also mention that I had fireworks at my wedding, and they were okay with that. An on-site host made sure the trash was taken out too, but other than that we were responsible for leaving CMO as nice as we found it.

We are so thrilled we chose Camp Mary Orton for our wedding. The flexibility this venue afforded us was really integral into helping make our wedding ideas into reality. We were able to choose our own caterer and provide our own alcohol, which can cause costs to skyrocket at other venues who make you use their vendors. We opted to rent the lodge for both Friday and Saturday, which allowed us to get in the night before and set up a bit, which saved my sanity! We were also able to host our Rehearsal Dinner there, which was great so we could rehearse in the actual space.

Johanna was great to work with and did a fantastic job making me feel like our event really was special. She was very responsive closer to our event date (I think she could sense my nerves!). I really appreciated her calm demeanor as I was bouncing all over the place with energy and ideas – and she had an answer for every question, which was so appreciated.

The lodge is very much a Do It Yourself space, so be prepared to plan for everything. We lucked out and they bought 200 brand new chairs right before our event so we were able to cancel the set we had planned on renting, which added to the value of the rental fee quite a bit. They will have a camp host or two on site during your rental hours, but they mainly just do things like making bathrooms are stocked and trash is taken out.

Overall the vibe of our day was exactly what we wanted and the lodge was perfectly sized for our 140 person wedding. I wish they would have offered off-season rates, as they have an extensive and beautiful outdoor space that we weren't able to utilize. Will be amazing for summer weddings, though!

Camp Mary Orton is a beautiful place to get married! I went there as a child and did high ropes and it means a lot to me that I later got married there. The lodge is beautiful, and big! You could fit a pretty large wedding in there. We got married outside in a little cove behind a cabin, and it was ideal for us. There are free field games that come with your rental, which our guests enjoyed. The woman in charge of weddings, KD, is also in charge of the camp. She is a pleasure to work with, but be aware that during camp season she is very busy and may not get back to you instantaneously, that being said she responded to us in a reasonable amount of time whenever we had questions.

Camp Mary Orton is nice because you can bring you own food and alcohol, there are no preferred caterers so you can pick anyone you like. Plus, for an additional fee, you can have some of the adventure elements open during your wedding, though be aware, you cannot have adventure elements open and serve alcohol simultaneously. We had the ravine crossing element (similar to a zip line, but with more running to start) open during the morning of our wedding, unfortunately not a lot of guests utilized it but we did and it was a great way to start the day.

I loved getting married at Camp Mary Orton. If you want a laid back, woodsy wedding in the Columbus area I would highly recommend it. Plus, your rental benefits the camp, which provides a few camp and nature experiences including a summer camp program for lower income Columbus school children. So if you get married at Camp Mary Orton, you get a chance to help the community.

Camp Mary Orton was the perfect setting for our wedding. We wanted an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception. The area was absolutely gorgeous in the fall! All of our guests thought it was such a nice setting. It was nice to find such a perfect outdoor area that seemed far away from the city, but really wasn't. The price was very reasonable and we liked that it would benefit the camp. Hosting weddings is not the main function of the camp so they are busy with other things. That being said, communication wasn't the easiest, but it also wasn't unreasonable. We visited so many venues outside of the Columbus area because we just didn't think we could get the setting we wanted in Columbus, but we are so glad that we choose Camp Mary Orton and we would not hesitate to recommend them to others!

The grounds are beautiful and you can choose where to have your ceremony. The lodge is a good alternative if th weather doesn't permit an outdoor ceremony. The kitchen is large and could accommodate all our serving items.

Overall our experience with CMA was great! We knew as soon as we got on site that we were where our wedding would be held! We loved the flexibility the offered where we could sculpt our day to be exactly what we wanted! It was nice not having to rent tables and chairs since those were on site. The onsite kitchen is huge and came quite in handy for our caterer too! The recent additions and upgrades really take the whole venue up a notch too. I especially loved that we had free reign of the entire venue for the time of our event. You have a blank slate to create your event and it really is such a pretty space!! :)
The only bit I would really complain about is that the time it took to call back after leaving a message, or answer an email seemed too long at times. a couple times i had to follow up with a second email just to make sure they received the first.

This was perfect for my husband and me b/c we the do it yourself type of couple to save money and this really allowed us to have what we wanted, the way we wanted it, our own decor/food/music, and it was beautiful. Basically, they provided the space and a host for the wedding and that was all that was needed. I loved it. And the price let us have the venue for the night before for the rehearsal dinner.

Our wedding turned out beautiful at Camp Mary Orton. Our pictures are wonderful and I loved the venue. Unfortunately there were times when it was a pain to get a response from Johanna at camp. I would agree with another review that says it's expensive for what you get. I also disliked that we had to end the reception at 10.

Camp Mary Orton is tucked away in a lovely wooded area, and recent improvements have made it a nice venue for a wedding or other special event. In addition, CMO has the distinction of being one of few venues in the Columbus area that are flexible in terms of catering, alcohol, and other vendors - there are no approved lists or strict guidelines here, which allows you to craft your wedding day in whatever way you see fit and, potentially, save some money (including providing your own food and alcohol if you wish). The flip side of this (potentially a downside for some) is that you are very much on your own when it comes to planning and executing your wedding. Everything must come in and out within the rental period you have reserved, and you (or your caterer/wedding planner/etc.) will be responsible for all setup and tear down (not uncommon at wedding venues, but worth noting). With past experience as a wedding planner, I was comfortable with this arrangement. Ultimately, however, I feel that the price of the venue is too high for the extremely limited services they offer (limited tables, plastic garden chairs, no additional space to get ready, no on-site coordinator, detached restrooms, etc.). In addition, I found it very frustrating to work with the contact on-site - e-mails would often go for a week or more without being answered, making it difficult to keep plans moving forward. In person, Johanna was very nice and knowledgeable, but remote communication frequently left something to be desired. At the end of the day, our wedding was beautiful and guests had a great time, but I attribute much of that to our planning and our team of vendors, rather than to the venue itself.
