About
Congratulations on your wedding!

We are a team of  NY wedding officiants who provide creative and personalized civil wedding ceremonies, in traditional, contemporary, or international formats. All our ceremonies are conducted by Certified Marriage Officiants legally registered with the City of New York (similar to a Justice of the Peace). We work with you to design a simple, meaningful civil ceremony, which incorporates your wishes and traditions.

Known as the "New York Wedding Grannies", because we are all New York grandmothers, we have wide experience;  from small personal ceremonies and elopements to family-size weddings and larger gatherings. We will come to your location of choice and perform a personal wedding service to suit your wishes.  We may be grandmothers, but we're intrepid, and have married people at dawn and at midnight, on bridges, boats and balconies. Ceremony locations have included Central Park, Prospect Park, City Hall Park, gardens, lofts, hotels, museums, restaurants, private homes, and even unusual venues such as the Brooklyn Bridge, Coney Island, and other popular New York spots.  We have other suggested locations on our websites. We’re happy to provide advice and suggestions (at no charge, of course) on how to arrange a simple New York civil wedding.

Let us know your proposed date and location, and we will respond with availability, sample ceremonies and sample fees.
We offer reasonable rates, warm, personal service.

Frequently Asked Questions for Officiant
What officiant services do you provide?
Civil Union, Non-religious Ceremony

What religious affiliations do you serve?
Agnostic

Can you accommodate the hearing impaired?
No

Are you willing to perform a ceremony at a non-religious site?
We perform ceremonies at any location. In additional to non-religious sites, we also perform non-denominational ceremonies at chapels and other interfaith locations.

Are you flexible in the wording used throughout the ceremony, including the vows?
Couples can choose from and adapt many of our sample ceremonies, and we will also write personal ceremonies to suit the couple's wishes. We are completely flexible about the ceremony, as our goal is to fulfill the couple's own ceremony plans.

Do you allow the couple to write their own vows, if desired?
Of course we encourage and assist the couple in writing their own vows, as well as their own ceremony. For those who wish guidance, we have many sample ceremonies to use as guides.

Do you have a list of readings pre-selected, from which the couple must choose?
We have a large selection of poetry and readings which the couple may enjoy using, but we are completely open to any wishes of the couple. We encourage creativity, but also respect a couple's desire for simplicity.

Do you require that premarital counseling be done?
We do not require premarital counseling. We can recommend premarital sessions from certified (non-religious) counselors, if the couple request counseling.

Are you willing to perform pre-ceremony rehearsals?
We will be happy to suggest rehearsal options with the couple.

Additional Questions and Answers
We have a large selection of FAQs about weddings on our websites.  See weddingsofnewyork.com and elopnewyork.com
Highlights include locations, wet weather plans, ceremony samples, witnesses, vows, and information on photographer, caterers, etc.

We have also posted some important aspects to New York weddings, including making sure your officiant is properly registered with the City Clerk of New York City, and some important considerations for obtaining a marriage a license for non-New York residents (international couples). See How to Elope - License

Planning a wedding in New York City can be very easy -- as long as you are aware of some simple guidelines.  We have married many couples who have planned a simple elopement, with little fuss, as well as those who have brought an entire family group overseas for a family vacation in New York.  (Of course we also do traditional large weddings, which involve more planning).  Each wedding is different, but many of the same questions can be answered - the role of relatives, blended families, traditional and non-traditional ceremonies, special ceremonies to incorporate cultural traditions and interfaith unions, and how to incorporate modern views in traditional ceremonies.  We’re happy to answer any of your questions (email is good - just send a note to:  staff@weddingsofnewyork.com )

Congratulations!
