Frequently Asked Questions
How would you identify your photographic style?
I consider myself a photojournalistic wedding photographer, although I normally include the standard posed shots associated with most weddings today. Photojournalistic wedding photography to me means shooting as many candid, unrehearsed moments as I can which capture the emotion of the day.
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
we can provide color, sepia tone, b&w images and our exclusive "art filter" techniques, which make each image special and different.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
We use primarily natural lighting when possible, which mimics what the human eye sees. When needed we use on camera flash.
Is your media preference film or digital?
We are all digital, which means unlimited image capture for our weddings.
How many photographers do you work with?
Martin Whitton Photography has numerous 2nd shooters on staff who are skilled professionals in the field of wedding photojournalism. Martin Whitton is the primary shooter at all weddings.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, Martin is the primary shooter at all weddings.
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one wedding in a day? Weekend?
We only book one wedding per day, and only 2 weddings per weekend during high season (May/June).
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the wedding day?
Yes. I have several skilled photographers who are available to take the primary photographers place if an emergency occurred.
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
My equipment is very mobile. 2-3 cameras, 4-6 lenses, flashes, batteries, etc. All professional equipment that makes my job easy and makes my clients look great!
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Of course. I have backups for all my equipment. This is one thing that separates a true professional from a "weekend warrior". We know how important your wedding is and we're there as professionals to capture each moment, not as a 1st time, experimental photographer.
Do you charge hourly or full day?
We have 5 great packages to choose from, all of which you can customize to fit your big day. Check out our website at www.mwwphoto.com
If hourly, are you available for shooting overtime? If so, how much do you charge for overtime?
Additional coverage is $200/hr. Normally we're able to avoid extra charges because we create a wedding day photo schedule for our clients which maps out the entire wedding day, hour-to-hour.
Do you require a meal break? If yes, do you require that the wedding party provide your meal?
Although it is common for the photographer to take a short break and eat after the bride/groom & guests eat, we don't require it. We are professionals and we know why we are there - to photograph the emotion of the big day - not to eat or party.
How many breaks do you usually take throughout the day?
I take a couple of short breaks. Most of my past clients would tell you that I am on the move, constantly photographing during the event.
Do you charge for travel?
If your event is more than 60 miles from Central Austin, Texas there will likely be a small mileage charge. If your event is a destination wedding, we normally include travel/accommodation expenses in your destination package price.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
We normally post around 100 proofs to our website for family/friends to view within 2-3 weeks.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Proofs will be on our website as .jpg images. You will receive 2 CDs containing 200-300 full-sized images.
How long can the couple keep the proofs?
The CDs our clients receive contain hi-resolution, full-sized images, which you can print or do with as you like.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Photographers always retain copyright for images they capture. However, we provide you with 2 CDs, full of high-resolution images and a copyright release form, which allows you to print/use the images as you wish. We don't believe in restricting use of something you pay for...
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
In our contract our clients simply agree to allow us to use any photos we capture in our advertisements or sample albums. If you desire more privacy, we will do what we can to accommodate your wishes.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the couple?
We provide you with 2 CDs: one color and one with b&w images.
Will images be available for viewing on an online gallery?
We normally post around 100 proofs from your wedding to our website for family/friends to view within 2-3 weeks.
What kind of albums do you offer?
We have partnered with a fantastic album designer called Asuka Books. They offer elegant, modern books that allow for lots of personalization.
When will I get the final book?
If you choose to order an album, we usually tell our clients that it takes approximately 4-6 weeks after the order is has been confirmed.
How long does it take to deliver a book?
First we design the album several weeks after wedding day. Then we email a pdf file to the client for review of the album design. Once the design is confirmed and the order is submitted, allow 4-6 weeks for processing/delivery. If you need it quicker, we can arrange a 10-day turnaround time, which is $49.

Additional Questions and Answers
What kind of input can we have on the direction of the shots?
Can we give you a shot list to work from? I would like to get as much input as possible from you. I draft a Wedding Photo Schedule that is customized specifically for your wedding. The schedule allows you to see how many hours are needed for shooting your wedding and exactly who will be photographed when & where. You will have the opportunity to edit the schedule as much as you like.

What attire will you and your assistants wear?
Professionalism is very important to me and I dress accordingly - normally in slacks and button-down long-sleeve shirts with a necktie. If the event calls for stepping up the attire, i.e., a tuxedo or suit, please let me know and I’ll be glad to oblige.

Can I get a discount?
I don’t want everything you have to offer in a package price… Sure, I offer discounts. If you would like customize a package to fit your needs I will work with you. I also offer discounts at different times of the year to encourage new clientele and to offer more competitive pricing.

After you’ve asked these questions of your potential wedding photographer, there are several questions you’ll want to ask yourself:
A. Do I like this person? B. Do I get along with them or get a good feeling from them?
C. Do I like their work as a wedding photographer?
D. Is it well lit, focused, well framed?

Tips and Advice
Lately, I've met with several brides who have told me horror stories about how their chosen photographer was paid a deposit and then left town. Be careful to choose a professional who has a proven track record of wedding photos. Dont be afraid to ask for references.

Be sure to ask your photographer to see some photos of entire weddings, start to finish. Anyone can take one good photo; A professional takes good photos from start to finish!
