Why would anyone trash their dress?

Andrea, on May 12, 2010 at 7:59 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 106

Just a random thought... I just don't quite understand why?

Many brides buy a second dress just to trash and get some awesome pictures.

    1. Photo op

    2. For fun

    3. You will never wear it again

    4. To get to wear it one last time after the wedding

Now, that said, most trash the dress photo shoots do not involve actually trashing the dress, but rather the illusion of it.

I think it might also relieve people of the burden of storing something for decades that is never going to be worn again, honestly. That's one major reason I just didn't get a traditional wedding gown.

But as Brooklynne says, most people just get a second dress for those photos.

Amazing photos, I got a white BMs dress for about $70 for mine. Not going to roll around in the ocean in my real dress

It's Fun! And yeah you spend alot of money on a dress but even if you save it for say a daughter or a neice they usually want their own dress.

Yeah, I guess it's just me, but since my mother spent a lot of money on mine... I'll go with the illusion that one day somebody will want it as either their "something borrowed" or "something old." Smiley winking

I think that this trend is totally insane. Destroying anything is nuts. So, you won't wear the dress again...but their are many future brides who cannot afford a dress, and would LOVE it if you donated your dress to the Breast Cancer bridal gown events.

Quite frankly, if I knew a bride was planning to trash her dress, she would NOT receive a gift from me.

I don't think what the bride does with their posessions should determine whether or not they get a gift. Could you go so far as to say all the money spent on a wedding could be donated just as easily so you wouldn't give them a gift then?

Some people splash around in paint or roll in mud or occasionally get set on fire (lol) but there are some that do as Analy did. Awesome looking photos without actually "trashing" it per se. It's just something fun and creative to do.

I don't think being a judgmental b!tch is appropriate of peoples decisions though =)

    To each their own.

Also, a lot of people underestimate the power of bridal dry cleaners, they can get even the messiest dress back to brand new.

Then, you can donate it. As I will donate mine, AFTER I TTD =)

It's about juxtaposition; wearing something in a place where it would not normally fit in. You don't have to do it, it's a trend. Oh and fyi, my mom had breast cancer and I make donations to Komen regularly. But, I did not get married in order to get gifts anyhow, but to give myself to my husband.

Really? Withholding gifts? I hate when there are strings attached to "gifts"....defeats the whole purpose of giving. If that's the case, just don't bother giving gifts. TTD is totally up to the individual and whether or not a guest agrees is none of their business. TTD is not for everyone... but that doesn't mean you judge the people who had fun doing it. With that mentality, you better be donating everything else you're keeping in that box from your wedding day bc there are plenty of people who have a better use for them than you do. I mean, come on. At the end of the day, it's a dress that you paid for...and you are free to do whatever you want.

Lol. If I had a guest like that I just wouldn't tell them I'm doing TTD. Instead, I'd take their gift, refund it, and use the money to buy a gal. of paint to dump on my dress and send them a picture in the thank you card.

    But you know...I'm a c. u. n.ext t.uesday like that. lmao.

TBH, I don't give a sh*t what anyone thinks but my husband! LOL And ya, I didn't tell people that I was doing it, but the response I have gotten overall from family, friends and otherwise has been overwhelmingly positive.
