Why are invitations so expensive? Help! Where did you get your invites?

AnticipatingAugust2011, on February 2, 2011 at 1:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 47

I am looking for some invitation ideas. The back-up plan(already in my colors) is listed below but I am unsure about it so I am playing with the idea of something fancier.

I just orders some from vista print. They came out good. My originals were from Davids bridal only because I have an account with them. Try their site and play around with it

I was originally just going to buy some from Target and save myself the trouble but when we added vintage books to our decor I did an Etsy Alchemy request and found a girl who's going to design them for me for $100 (60 invites, reception cards and bookmarks). Here's the sample we're working off of. It's not going to look exactly like that though. I guess for the amount of work she's doing it's a really good price.

Gartnerstudios.com. It's from Brides Mag. You choose a design and print em out yourself! Another website I LOOOOOVE is tinyprints.com! Their invitations are FABULOUS!!! Check them out. They have a wide selection of wedding invitations. Good luck!

I got one of the DIY invitation sets from Michael's It had 30 invites, direction cards, rsvps, rsvp envelopes all these little accessories. I bought it when they were having a sale (they do all the time) and got it for $20. All I had to do was print them and assemble them. Super easy!

I'm doing diy invites and going to get some of my supplies from here...http://www.cardsandpockets.com/

Some of the inseerts and stuff I'll just buy card stock and cut because it costs a little less than buying them precut.

This is kinda what I'm going for...

I got mine from Michael's and had them printed at Office Max, which I would NOT recommend doing!

I bought mine from Michael's at a huge discount on Black Friday and I'm going to take them somewhere to get them printed. Why would you not recommend that, Mrs. Jayjohn? Please explain!! You made me nervous!

@Anticipating August if you go with the exclusively wedding invites try getting catalogs from them before ordering they usually have promo codes on the front for anywhere from 10-25% and free shipping. The ones your thinking about are my invites and I love them, the invites were one thing I was not willing to DIY but that's just me. Good Luck Smiley smile

Also you can request a sample invite be sent to you for free from ew.com

@EDubbs, exactly! I saw another WW bride mention it and did a little research. It's like a board and the vendors look at it and bid to take your order. Just describe what you want, how much you want to pay, when you need it by and post! It's free and I got a TON of responses. I mean like 20! My inbox was completely swamped. I chose ModernPapyrus because she was easy to communicate with (got back to me near immediately!) and seemed to understand what it is we're going for. I got a couple offers below my budget too. And you just choose who you want! :-) Loved it!

@Catherine, I found this when doing research for my wedding. Since you're doing library, I figured it would be a cute idea. we're going to use this for ours :-) (book theme)

I used a vendor from here. (Kings Designs @goskell) I had a custom design and printed for a resonable cost. Including all envelopes (inner and outer). I LOVED THEM!

I also am working with Kings Designs, recommended by Jaemi. I am very happy with the service and price so far and I recommend them to anyone! I found them to be cheaper then vistaprint...much cheaper!
