When did you start wedding planning?

How soon after the proposal did you start wedding planning? Did you dive right in once you got the bling? Did you wait a little while to just enjoy being engaged? Did you already have some ideas in your head (or on Pinterest)? When did you start wedding planning? Photo by The DV Image in New York,...

Two days later we were looking at venues and a week later we were taking engagements pictures. My fiancé works off he is a rig welder and isn’t home often so we have to get a lot done quick when he is home. We also only have 9 months to plan a wedding with him thousands of miles away at times.

We've been together 7 years, and it's been 2 1/2 years since he proposed. Since then I've had a baby, graduated from college, my fiance landed the job we'd been hoping for, we've moved 800 miles, and my brother has gotten married. This year is finally the year, but it proves that there's no set time between saying "yes" and saying "I do."

We waited about two months because we knew our mother’s would want a saying in our Planning. So far it’s been great having them keep us on task.
    Happy planning 🍷

My story may be different than most but also may be insightful for anyone who finds themselves in the same situation. The proposal was just before the Christmas holiday was in full swing so we were able to be around family during the initial moments of being newly engaged. I loved telling everyone and being surrounded by some of our biggest supporters. But, I wanted to wait to start planning and just enjoy the moment and sort of get used to the idea. Many family members were excited and began probing for my ideas and trying to initiate the planning phase and insisting that they could start helping right away. I was stubborn, and didn't budge. I had started a wedding Pinterest board just before I met my fiance but much of it was outdated by the time I found myself ready to start deciding what, when and where. Sadly, a few weeks after we announced our engagement, my father passed away unexpectedly. Naturally I needed time before I could think about our future wedding because it had become entirely too painful to imagine it without him. I promised myself a month off from "wedding talk" and if I was ready to start back up before the month was over, that was okay. If I needed more time then that was okay too! Surprisingly, my mom said a few words during my grief that woke me up and I was able to imagine a beautiful ceremony in which my fiance and I would share our vows to spend the rest of our lives together. And, suddenly I felt so lucky that we had each other. Today marks one month and two days following my father's untimely death and I am here on weddingwire in full swing planning mode getting quotes from venues and vendors. My fiance has been my partner in planning, which has been a pleasant surprise. We haven't committed to a place but we have decided to get married on my parents' wedding anniversary. In my heart, I know that my dad will be with my mom where ever she is on that day so I know he will be there somehow. And, who knows, maybe some day our children will keep the anniversary in the family for generations and his legacy will live on. So, all we have is a date and it has been almost two months since he popped the question! Good luck to all the brides who share a similar loss Smiley heart Smiley heart Smiley heart

I waited a couple of weeks. My venue is booked, DJ and Catering Co is all set as well. Even though I have 9 months, don't want the stress. I'm starting dress shopping next week.

I had ideas in mind of what I wanted before the engagement. But once we were actually engaged, I began planning within a few days. My first priority was my venue because they book up so quickly and I had a very specific vision in mind, so we started venue tours and chose one within a couple of weeks!

I started planning the next day because he had me thinking about getting married for a couple months. Then it was more of a question on colors and decorations so I could find the right rustic looking venue. Which is what we are doing now. Pricing things has been left up to his mom because she knows so many people and can get great discounts but that's how soon I started planning. Smiley smile

Enjoy the moment of celebrating & sharing your engagement with family & friends. Then it’s time to start gathering ideas & obtaining a planner. Good Planner can take your ideas & make the theme work with your budget. Venues book fast depending on the time of year, so working toward that task is first & to make sure it fits in budget along with all other wedding expenses. Your guest list is also an important first, it is big factor in overall cost of wedding. Happy Planning

The planning started before we were officially engaged. I knew he would propose to me one day when we first started dating. However, the actual details and official planning began when my mom decided she wanted to help pay for the wedding. so, just after Christmas. At that point, I went and bought my dress ( I had already picked it out), I chose my venue and met with them, signed the contract (they do catering and the décor and the DJ as well, so that's a bunch of stuff checked off.),and then went and bought my shoes! last week i booked a photographer, Tuesday we got our cake taken care of, tomorrow we meet our officiant. I still have just under a year to go. better save than sorry, right?

    We started right away!

We we got engaged in late December, right before a week of vacation time I had taken from work. We had decided that we didn’t want a long engagement. When we were calling friends to share our news he started telling them we would be looking at dates this summer. I laughed and then jumped into venue research!
