When did you start buying 'things'?!

Lisa, on February 3, 2020 at 5:15 PM Posted in Planning 5 237

So our wedding is in October and I am anxious to starting buying ‘things’! How far out did you buy your bridal party/parents gifts, your guest book, reception items (toasting flutes/cake cutting set) and all your other wedding days ‘things’? I’m not sure why I am hesitating, but something is keeping me from hitting the checkout button!

I started buying things as soon as I found what I wanted. It was nice to spread out the spending so I was dropping large amounts of money all at once.

I started ASAP bc I knew I would have a lot to do since Im DIYing a bunch and didnt want to stress later. Its mostly things Im not too hung up over, like reception decor, signage, guest book stuff. Not getting his ring, my earrings, and his cufflinks until after we move this summer.

I’m getting married in August and started buying stuff back in November, but we’re DIYing a lot of our decor. I got huge savings during Black Friday and underestimated on some stuff in the thought that I could buy more if the rsvps end up being higher than what we estimated.

So far we have charger plates, runners, frames for signs, jars for the snacks tables, and our centerpieces. We’re trying to spread it out over multiple months to make it more manageable expense-wise and I try to buy during sales only

Our wedding is in August. We're starting to buy all the little things just so we can't cross them off the list already and not have to do anything last minute.

I started a couple months after getting engaged. I was about 16 months out from the wedding. I just couldn’t wait!

I started buying things right when we got engaged. My mom and I started buying things for centerpieces and other decorations. I think its fine to start a bit early so that way its not all at once.
Make sure to save all your receipts.

I spoke with all my vendors first before I started buying things like centerpieces, lights, linens, toasting flutes, ect... I'm so glad I did because I found that all my vendors offered to barrow me things that I could use, (It helps them when posting RL photos of their products when they help make it look great). So at least in my experience, I waited until all vendors were locked in then I made a list of what I still needed. I gave myself about 6 months and now I'm slowly buying things here and there. Also a tip of advice, go to a wedding show, read bridal magazines and make absolutely sure that you love everything before you lock it in since its still 8 months away to reduce the risk of changing your mind!

We are paying for everything so I have already bought a lot for my October wedding:

    Dress
    centerpiece vases/marbles/candles
    frames for our signs

Love is sweet words for cake table

votive candle holders for the cake/popcorn bar tables and cocktail tables if we have any left over

    votive candles for those holders

    cake topper

    ring box

    table numbers

I could go on. I say if you know you like it buy it.

I am in the same boat. Getting married in October and have been looking for a number of items but haven't been able to pull the trigger. I just keep reminding myself once all of this is purchased, I'll be able to see exactly how much we have left to save on the fixed deposits. These miscellaneous items could be less or more than my estimates. I just finally purchased our envelopes for the invitations and my FH's wedding band. I would definitely look on AliExpress for little things. You can get a personalized cake topper for super cheap. I'll also be buying my table runners from there.

I'm getting married in 55 days.
We just bought groomsman gifts. I picked our my bridesmaid gifts, but have to finish making them. Bought their earrings on a Black Friday sale. Bought the guestbook 3 months ago. Just purchased our cake cutting set on Friday and I'm waiting on it to be delivered.

I bought some decor items last spring... but I'm no longer planning to use them. Luckily I didn't buy a ton.
