When did you start buying 'things'?!

So our wedding is in October and I am anxious to starting buying ‘things’! How far out did you buy your bridal party/parents gifts, your guest book, reception items (toasting flutes/cake cutting set) and all your other wedding days ‘things’? I’m not sure why I am hesitating, but something is keeping...

I’m not sure why I am hesitating, but something is keeping me from hitting the checkout button!

When we got engaged, 9 months before the wedding date, a arts & crafts chain had their wedding items all 75% off so I bought everything I thought I would want and I have returned 90% of it.

And I am still buying decor with the wedding 10 weeks away. But now I am finalist if all the decor projects I had decided on.
We are using family China for cake server, forks, plate and toasting flutes. Our guest book is a giant wooden H that a coworker and artist will do a wood burning on then stain to make it look more wood grain when finished. We are skipping the flower girl and ring bearer. Since our ceremony is weather dependent because of outside, we have an arbor we are decorating which can be outside or in the reception area. If outside and windy we can’t have a unit candle. But the rope, broom, sand, or breaking the glass doesn’t fit us. We are having “God’s Knot” instead as our binding together.
We have changed stuff as timeline is put together. Or as we find new ideas.
The point is, things can always change. And if you want to buy then check the return policy. Sometimes it just takes some time and talking to the right inspiration to hit.

Honestly our wedding is NEXT October and I’m already almost done buying the little things and decor for the venue!! I felt guilty but they’ve all been because they have been great deals! I would say go at your own pace but if you know what you want buy it!

We had a year-long engagement and I started buying things as soon as I found things I liked! I was worried if I found something I liked but then waited, it might not be available anymore. it was nice to spread out the purchases. my spare room really filled up with stuff though!

I have a tote bucket full of things that i bought here and there...it made me feel like something was accomplished and that I wouldn't have to worry too much later on. I actually have the dress, the venue, the dj, the centerpieces, the favors. all i need to worry about is my wedding party getting there things, the flowers and that is pretty much it.

I began buying two weeks after being engaged. My dress is in the closet now and we still have until Sept. If you see a deal jump on it because when peak season hits, things will fly off the shelf!

Our wedding is this May and we've been planning since May 2018... so, it's hard to remember exactly when I started buying things. I want to say I really started buying things a year out from the wedding. Before that I was really focused on booking and saving for big vendors, like the DJ, the caterer, ect. Once we got to a comfortable place financially, I felt more comfortable buying some of those little things that didn't have a hard deadline for payment. But, even then I didn't go too crazy either... I had that same feeling where I hesitated to actually buy things. I think it was because I was worried I would change my mind about them the longer I was holding onto them, and the more I shopped around. Even now, I still have quite a few things to buy... mostly décor. My most recent purchases were my veil and our cake topper!

Our wedding is in October and I have bought everything that I can afford so far. We are doing silks for our flowers so I have the majority of those as well. Somethings may have to wait and you may not know how many flowers you need but it’s always best to plan ahead!

Start when you want! Proposal was in March 2019, wedding is Feb. 29, 2020. I am almost done with every single thing except the food. My mom is a caterer so she is doing it all. Food is all we have left to buy, because I’m a planner! I stretched out the time and bought when I found what I wanted. Easier on the wallet that way too.

I started around a year or so before so that you don’t get a huge bill at once I started accumulating things as I saw they went on clearance or sale. Also as I found things I liked and wanted for wedding or reception. I did away somethings like guestbooks. To be honest I asked a bunch of people and they have not even looked at it. They said only thing important are pictures video and maybe food. But they said the pictures you look at and video

So I still have a lot of things to buy but I did buy a lot of things as well. I have bought my cake cutter and I got it monogrammed a few months ago. I haven’t got my guestbook or any of my wedding party gifts yet though. Oh I still need to buy the flower girl basket and the ringbearer pillow as well. But we did get our wedding bands and I did get my dress. Still need to get the accessories though. So I’m about halfway there but I still have plenty of time I think it’s normal to space it all out. Not sure if that helps.
