Mori Lee has some gorgeous dresses! I tried on everything on that I loved for $900 new. I didnt end up buying that dress. I purchased an essence of australia gown for $1600 but it fit and needs no alterations. Don't be afraid to ask about sales and discounts. Budget was a big deal for me so I asked.. and got a discount! The sales person helping me also quietly advised me not to buy the store veil but to check online. Found one on etsy for half the price. If you have time watch for the sales and hit them up.
My dress, which is an Allure Bridal, cost $1,298 at the store where I wanted to be served. Another gallery had the same dress for $1,050, but we decided that we were okay with a slightly higher cost for MUCH better service (SUPER important--the place I ended going with treated me like a princess and even sent me a hand-written thank you card after the purchase). I'm budgeting about $400 for alterations (removing bling, adding a hidden corset, etc.). I originally wanted to spend about $700 on a dress (including alterations), but I quickly found that it's very difficult to find sample dresses when you're a street-size 18 and have very persnickety taste. You should be able to find a dress fairly easily for $1,200, but don't forget the alterations! Best of luck.
I bought a beautiful Danielle Caprese gown that was a Kleinfeld exclusive. It was to much, but it was so amazing I couldn't say no. It was the first dress I tried on.
$520 on sale (originally $1300). Mine is Alfred Angelo that I bought from a small bridal shop that was closing permanently (hence the 60% off sale). Thankfully the seamstresses that worked there all have work lined up elsewhere and one is 5 minutes away from me, so I can still get alterations from her.
I found my dress completely by accident- and at a steal! I walked into a resell shop while I was at a bridal show. They buy discontinued styles and resell them at a reduced rate. I got Allure 9022 for $900.
$1100 for an elegant Narin Moda gown in Winter Park, Florida. I had set a budget of $1,000, hoping to stay around $700-$800, but there was no competition when I tried this dress on! And the boutique (Something New Bridal Boutique) worked with me to get closer to my budget.
The only alterations I needed was shortening the hem and setting the bustle. I paid $226 for alterations.
I only spent about 300 dollars. I went for an elegant bridesmaid's dress in ivory (here it is in blue: http://www.bestforbride.com/viewDress/580/Dessy/Bridesmaids.php)
$300 (originally $1200) shop was going out of business. I'll end up spending more at alterations of course; hoping to end up around $600.
My dress was just under 1k and then I got 10% off because it was a trunk show. With the tax and special order in petite it came out to $1,157. It's a Maggie Sottero.
