Mine was $3k and an additional 1k in alterations, it's a very big ballgown and that includes the tiara, 2 veils and 2 petit coats and I even budgeted shoes. I did see most of the dresses for like 2k I got mine from David tutteras line.
I set a budget of $3000. I ended up falling in love with an Elizabeth Fillmore dress and everything else I've seen up until then just seemed unappealing in comparison. Definitely went over budget on the dress, but don't regret a single bit of it!
I got my dress consignment from an upscale boutique in Edina, MN that has new and consignment dresses. It was a spring 2014 line dress (Haute Coutour) retailed for $1899 and I got it for $749 and it is in perfect condition; I couldn't even tell it had been worn. It is already bustled so I won't have to pay for that, but it does have to be brought in on the top. This was the perfect situation for me as a bride with expensive taste but on a budget thanks to graduate school.
Bought my Casablanca (1971) in Rhode Island for $1100, then paid $200 to have custom measurements done and add short sleeves to the strapless dress (per church rules -- they call it the "modest version" and Casablanca has one for almost every dress, btw). Custom measurements mean I don't need to spend so much on alterations, so that's a good way to save money -- they cost upfront, but it's worth it. My alterations are literally $50, and that's to add a bustle and take in the shoulders a bit.
$400! Got mine at a beautiful little notice where the owner was retiring. It was originally $1900. Since I'm having a January wedding, I wanted half sleeves. I also got a bolero for $30 which was originally $350, which I had added to my dress to look like a single piece. Alterations cost $250 for a total of $680 for the finished product. I love my custom dress, and I love it even more because I didn't have to break the budget for it!
I just went to a sample sale with my friend and she got a dress for $399, none of the dresses there were over $1,200. I've only been dress shopping once, but the dresses they carried only went up to like $1,700 (aside for a couple amazing Hailey Paige gowns)
Saw a dress in a Davids bridal catalog a year before I got engaged, when I did they still had it and I got it for $800. $1100 for undergarments and alterations together with the dress.
I bought mine used from original owner who wore it two years ago Casablanca.original cost was 1250. I paid $175.00. Shoes worn by another bride on ebay $30.00 veil new from china $20.00. I still need alterations, but i saved a bundle.
I spent $250 on a China website but I had to spend $255 on alterations. The older lady that altered my dress said it was a $2000 dress. I'm very pleased. I love my dress; the sizes over in China run much smaller than the U.S. That's the only problem....
I paid $35!!! I had a $100 credit in the store from a return several years earlier. I chose a simple satin, mermaid style dress. There's no beading or rhinestones, its very simple, timeless, and classic. It was the first one I tried on and I love it. All in all $135 + $180 in alterations (I'm very short.)
