I just got mine today! Originally $1100 at David's Bridal and cut down with sales to $875! I've noticed that there it's okay to look slightly over your budget because they almost always have sales! But my budget was $1100 so I know how you're feeling - but I promise you'll find something beautiful and perfect for you!
Mine was $300 from David's Bridal. I got it on sale from $500, and it was ordered, not off the rack. It's very simple and slinky compared to many other wedding dresses, because I'm not one for a lot of fluff. It is completely lace, with sequins and pearl like beads and a satin lining. I will be buying a small petty coat mostly to help with walking since there is no tulle to keep the skirt away from my legs. I took my mom's wedding dress to a local tailor and they are making my veil out of her lace train for $60. I think it really isn't hard to find reasonably priced dresses and accessories, you just have to be willing to look and not just take what the industry puts in front of you.
You're a budget bride and want to spend $1200 on your dress? If you want to save money on your wedding, cut that in half! You'll still be able to find plenty of gorgeous dresses for less than $600.
You don't want to be that bride that goes cheap on the wedding (lets say...having only wine or cutting out alcohol altogether to save money) and then show up in a $1200 dress. That's just being an a$$ in my opinion.
With that said, my dress was $500 (originally 1000)...and the bustle was a whopping $25, I was fortunate not to need alterations. I got tons of compliments on my dress as well.

@Denise - I just thought the same thing! Default avatar and one star... way weird!
I work at a bridal store and if you're on a budget, ask about trunk shows and sample sales. There should be a stock of sale dresses, so just ask! Expect to spend 300-500 on basic alterations depending on where you're located and how much needs to be altered. Ask what perks are included if you get a dress at their store and if you get discounts on accessories or bridesmaids. Also if you let your consultant know your price point they'll try and stay as close to it as possible, since they don't want to lose a sale because you can't afford something!
This is such a helpful forum. I had no idea what dresses cost and went into my first bridal shop and was so taken back by pricing. I thought $500 was a lot of a dress and in the normal world it is but put "wedding" in front of that and all of a sudden $500 is a cheap budget. I'm not set at under $2000 but the thought of spending that much makes me sad. Not to mention I tried on a dress that was $3200 and fell in love and it makes me so sad.
I work at a bridal store. If you're on a budget look for sample sales and trunk shows. Also stores carry a selection of sale dresses so ask them to see those. If you give your price point to your consultant they'll keep within your budget since they won't want to lose a sale of you can't afford something. Ask if there are perks to buying at their store such as discounts on accessories or bridesmaids dresses. Are alterations included or is there a cap on how much alterations are? Expect to spend 300-500 for basic alterations.
I work at a Bridal Shop in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) and there are a decent number of options for that price point, but you have to keep in mind that you may not be able to be as picky as you'd like, and you may have to buy off-the-rack. Alterations are usually around the $400 mark depending on the style you choose, so if you're including that in your budget, you might have a harder time finding options. If youre choosing a dress that has a very detailed hem or lots of lace, that will run the alterations a lot higher than a tulle/plain hem dress, so keep that in mind as well
Mine was $450 and just what I wanted... I would've spent much more! I haven't done alterations yet and with the sash and veil I'll probably be close to $1000. You can definitely find what you want for less than you think, you just have to be willing to look around. We're doing our dream wedding for under $10000.
Maggie Sottero for $1,049. The dress was reasonable but what you really need to be prepared for is the veil. I didn't think I wanted one until my stylist described how it plays a very important part in the presentation of you, the bride, to your future mate. I had to go over my $1,200 budget in order to have the perfect veil to match me. I believe every bride has a particular veil that she is meant to have on the big day. It's also a nice gift for mother to give daughter that is personal and touching. I purchased a Toni Federici veil for $450 and absolutely love it.
