Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I take it off when I shower, doing the dishes, work out or any manual labor. I do wear it when I sleep and most days and have worn it in a pool

I almost always have mine on. I take it off when I shower and when I’m cooking dinner but other than that it’s on.

I wear mine at all time unless we are at the beach or lake. Thin I’ll throw my rubber ring on. Just because if I loose it there I’d never find it.

I take it off when I get home! I don’t want to be cleaning with it on, that could be worse for it.

I was previously engaged when I was younger. I wore my ring all the time... until one night my fingers had swelled up a bit and it woke me up because it was hurting so badly. Took it off before bed every night after that.

I think wearing your ring non-stop is more of an old school thing. Which is why you see some parents/grandparents that cannot even get their rings off anymore bc their fingers grew over time.

I wear it only If we are out of the home. Otherwise if I’m home it’s in the box it came. I’m so paranoid that I’m gonna either scratch it or one of the diamonds on the band is gonna fall off. That’s the same with all my jewelry though. If I’m home I’m not wearing my jewelry.

I wear mine 24/7. I teach swimming but I don’t want to leave my ring in the locker room so I keep it on. I do take it off for the beach or whitewater rafting. It’s totally up to you. I would forget to put it on in the morning if I took it off when I got home. I have insurance so if it gets dirty or damaged I can just bring it in to the store.

I take it off when I get to the gym, clean or do any real kind of physical activity, when I get a shower and when I sleep. I also take it off if I'm doing anything messy or dirty with my hands. I dont like having to take it and get it cleaned all the time and my fingers swell when I sleep and it gets uncomfortable so I just take it off. But I always wear it when I'm out (unless its for one of the aforementioned physical activities).

I pretty much only wear mine to work or if I'm going out of the house for an event! I wear a silicone ring when I'm doing things around the house - dishes, yard work, exercising, showering, etc. I agree with Michaela - everyone is different! You shouldn't be shamed for not wearing it around your house... it's not like you're trying to pick up the dust bunnies under the couch!

I take it off when cooking, bathing or doing anything physical. Agree with not wanting to get it dirty or messed up

I take mine off and sually forget to put it back on. I work with little kids who like to take things off and play with them so mine is usually off!

I wear my ring 24/7 but there are times that I do take it off like when I’m doing something that it can get damaged. But I’m the type of person that wears my jewelry all the time and never takes it off. It’s your decision on what you want to do don’t let anyone make you feel bad for not wanting to wear it when you are home or doing things that it can be damaged.

I live in high altitude so swelling is an issue. When I’m hiking or working out I leave it at home. I take it off when I’m cleaning and doing dishes. I’m planning on getting a silicone ring, which I’ll probably wear more often than my engagement ring/wedding band because they stretch.

I take my ring off when I go to bed because I'm afraid of it slipping off my finger and getting lost in the sheets. I also take it off when I'm doing something messy like kneading dough or bathing my dog. I even take it off when I wash my hands because it gets in the way.

I wear my ring 24/7 for one simple reason: I am lose all my jewellery. I have a very simple, understated ring so the small stone makes it easy to wear no matter what I’m doing. I swim with it, play drums with it on and even do clay work and painting.

I take it off when I am doing chores around the house, taking a shower, and making dinner when I'm handling chicken. I dont want it to get damaged or dirty. I'm sure when I've been married for several years I'll feel differently and wear it all the time. My SIL never takes hers off bc she doesn't want to lose it. To each their own!

I take it off before swimming in a pool or the ocean, mine is a family antique so it's irreplaceable, plus it's a mix of yellow gold with silver around the diamonds, so the silver tarnishes. I also be sure to wear gloves when doing dishes, cleaning, or certain kinds of cooking (making meatballs, for instance). I'll put it into a soft pouch from my jeweler or around my neck on a necklace when not wearing it.
Don't let folks shame you about taking it off, my ring was really dinged and beat up when I got it, and it took a lot of work to get it back to a stable condition. That's because people didn't take them off! I see no harm in wanting to ensure the life of your ring so it lasts more than your own lifetime in good shape!!

I honestly take mine off when showering or cooking cause I don't want it to get ruined or have some sort of raw meat on it when I'm cooking

I take my ring off when I'm washing dishes, doing any kind of housework or working out at the gym. I would hate for it to get bent/scratched/lose a stone etc. I actually had a nightmare about this last night!

I wear my ring almost everyday depending on what I'm doing throughout the day. Obviously, an engagement ring doesn't come cheap so you want to take really good care of it. But much like you, I take my ring off as soon as I get home and place it in the ring box since I have a habit of misplacing things. I don't wear it when I don't have to like when I'm just at home or if I'm doing certain activities like working out, washing my car, and so on and so forth. But keep doing you! It's your ring, you do what you want with it and wear it whenever you want!
