Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I basically take mine off when I get home, I don’t wear it to cook, clean or workout because I’m scared of damaging or getting it dirty. I have also heard if you wear it to bed the prongs can loosen and diamonds can be lost. I posted about this once before and felt kind of judged for taking it off and not wearing it 24/7, but that’s just what I do 🤷🏻‍♀️

I get where you are coming from! I take mine off any time I would have to get it wet (showering, washing hands, swimming) and I take it off when I go to bed. Occasionally I’ll take it off when I bake so I don’t get flour or anything food related in it! You do you, don’t let others tell you how to live your life! ☺️

Days I do wear my ring, I take it off as soon as I get home. I don’t wear my ring to work often and sometimes on the weekend I forget to put it on. But it’s a must for date night lol

I wear mine 99% of the time. I will wear my silicon one if I am in the ocean or in the pool.

I take my ring off in the shower, doing dishes and when applying lotions. If I forget to put it back on, I darn near have a panic attack!

Unfortunately I can't wear my ring at my job, & I work a lot with crazy hours so then when I run errands on off days I FORGET to put it back on because I'm so used to not having to wear it. I've even been out to run wedding tasks without my ring
I take it off to cook, especially if I'm coming into contact with raw meat, washing dishes or anything like that

I have to take to take off all my rings when working out or I get blisters. Do whatever works for you, just have somewhere consistent/routine to place it to avoid losing it.

I take mine off for using the restroom, doing dishes, showering and sleep. I dont want to ding it up or dull it from constant handwashing. There is absolutely no rule that says you can't take it off.

I don't think anyone should judge you for something like that. Do as you please, it is your ring and your finger and if there's anyone who should have an opinion, it's your fiance. That's it. And even then, it's still ultimately your choice. I've never been a big fan of jewelry and as much as I love my ring, I am still not used to wearing it after a year of being engaged now. The weight is still an adjustment for me so I find myself taking it off quite often. When I shower, do dishes, run, etc. I do typically wear it whenever I am out, as many of the posters here.

I even know a couple in which the husband doesn't ever wear his wedding band because of his line of work and the wife is totally okay with it! My parents also both don't wear their wedding rings. So it's just about you!

I take it off whenever I'm going to get my hands dirty at work, while cleaning, or anytime my hands are over a large uncovered drain the ring could fall down since I'm very paranoid a few about losing it to a drain lol. Basically anytime I'm going to get substances on my hands I guess Smiley tongue

I take it off when sleeping, showering, doing dishes, cleaning, and when at the gym. Other than that it’s usually on.

I love my ring and still after almost 5 months of being engaged stare at my finger all the time! When we first got engaged I was so concerned... Do I take it off, leave it on? I asked everyone and their mothers what they do. I still sometimes go back and forth. My fiance got insurance on it so it makes me feel a bit better. I am a nurse and was hearing so many stories of people losing their ring. Now I sort of just do as I please. If I think it is in "harm" or going to get all gross I take it off. Like preparing dinner or meats, using a lot of cleaning products, putting on lotion. My biggest fear is losing it so I have ring dishes in every room of my house.... When it is off though I notice me going to play with it or stare at it and when I realize it isn't there I get sad and scared that I lost it. I waited a long time for this ring and I want people to no that Im engaged and see it!!!

Yes, I wear my engagement ring all the time.. I feel its the proper thing to do. I normally take it off to lotion my hands or arms or something and one day I forgot to put it back on and I left for work and when I got home.. My fiancé was like oh you took your ring off so guys think your available.. I reassured him that I have a voice and I know how to tell people I'm happily engaged.. Now I don't take it off unless I necessarily have to.

I usually only take it off before my shower. Then I put it back on. I usually clean it right in the bathroom too with alcohol and a tooth brush. It feels weird when I don't have it on.

I take it off for certain tasks such as: washing dishes, showering, working out, gardening/yard work, cooking and sometimes sleeping.

To each is own. Don't feel bad for taking your ring off.

I take mine off when working out, showering, swimming, and before bed. I usually take off all my jewelry once I get home, including my ring, but I always put it on when I leave my apartment. I'm in the process of losing weight so my ring is getting a little looser, which is a primary reason for taking it off when I think it could get lost (swimming, running). I've also gotten similar comments, but I didn't take it too personally. I also talked to my fiance about it and he isn't offended/supports my decision to remove it while working out, before bed, etc.

I only take it off to shower, wash the dishes, or do some deep-cleaning or dirty task. Tell your family member that taking your ring off is not the same as breaking an engagement 😂

I rarely wear my rings. I take them off for working out, going to PT, cleaning, showering, when I work at the hospital, or when I go out drinking. No one should tell you what you should do. If they try to be passive aggressive again, I would just pull out a notepad and pen and just lean close and go “Please tell me more about what I should be doing about something that has nothing to do with you. Oh you didn’t mean it like that? Well maybe we should think before we speak, yeah?”
