Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I love my ring but get worried it gets caught on things so I take it off when I sleep, shower, do dishes, etc. My fiancé and I also have silicone rings so we can interchange them when we are more active or when he's at work.

Do what works for you! I take mine off when I get home and I usually put it back on before I leave my house. But I don't shower, sleep, clean, garden, hike, swim, work out etc. with it on. I have a silicone ring for trips that I don't want to bring my ring on Smiley smile

I take my ring off for things like showering, swimming, cleaning, dishes (lots of water/soaps/chemicals etc.) but also take it off when I sleep and even sometimes walk around the house without it haha but I generally wear it whenever I leave the house.

I never take mine off because I am worried I'll lose it. I'm starting to notice that the gold band is getting scratched because I wear it when I lift weights at the gym. The textured metal on the weights is starting to scratch my gold band. Wearing your ring 24/7 sounds like a good idea, but it comes with risks. Smiley sad Smiley sad Smiley sad

Girl! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve read about girls wearing their ring to do everything and either loose it , damage it, or loose the stones.
As my mom told me (she lost her first engagement ring because she was one of those girls) “ When you get home, take it off put it in a safe place (like jewelry box) and don’t touch it!”
I also spoke to a jeweler who said no one should wear the ring while washing dishes, or showering, or cleaning anything because it can loosen the stones and damage the metal ( obviously platinum rings are more hardy but still can get scratches).
don't let anyone make you feel bad! If anything, you are being smart and making sure your ring lasts as long as possible.

I have really good "skin memory" so I almost always have either my bling ring or my silicone ring on so that I don't panic and think I lost it. I wear the silicone ring to work, the gym, and on days where I work multiple days in a row, I just wear it to sleep. Otherwise, I have the real one on. To each there own though! Don't let someone tell you that you are doing it wrong. :]

I don't wear mine 24/7. I take it off at home, and I typically dont put it on unless I'm leaving the house. I will never wear it while handling cleaning supplies. I do have silicon bands for when I am going out but am going to be doing something outdoors like tubing or camping, or when I do seasonal firefighting work. I mainly have them for my brain, it likes the feel of having the rings there. Same as anyone else, it holds value and I would hate to have anything happen to it. To say that it needs to be worn 24/7 is not practical anymore. Modern women have jobs/duties/chores that rings do not need to be subjected to.

I rarely actually wear mine and I have 2 (both very inexpensive) but my fiance also knows that I don't like rings all that much. It just feels too weird on my finger so I wear it when I go out on special occasions like a family movie night or going out to dinner with just my fiance.

I take mine off a lot actually lol. It comes off as soon as i come home because of cooking, cleaning, lotion; or, on occasion, when we go out and do something a little more outdoorsy/muddy or hands-on, etc. Other than to not get damaged, my ring has one of those vintage pave settings with a lot of tiny diamonds - it would seem very difficult to clean those should anything get caught in between - plus i want to preserve the shimmer for as long as i can.
it's up to you though, if your lifestyle isn't very hands-on, down and dirty (like you don't do much heavy lifting/aren't in a line of work where rings are prohibited or do a lot of activities that expose your ring to dirt or damage) then wearing it all the time isn't really a problem.

also personally i don' t like sleeping in jewelry cause i feel its uncomfortable.

also the jeweler who made it told me not to wear it 24/7.

I have mine on majority of the time. There are times when I take it off and that’s mainly when I am doing something that requires hard labor on my hands. I don’t like the idea of washing hair, cooking or even cleaning sometimes when I have my ring on but I never leave the house without it. One thing I’d like to question is how we as women are showcased with our rings but a man can walk around with no ring. Did anyone ever bring that up in topic. I talk about it often and my fiancé just says “I didn’t make the rules” lol

I think it's smart of you to take it off when you're doing busy work! I do the same thing personally, with a few exceptions. I don't wear it to work (I work in a warehouse/distribution center) because it would get straight up ruined - the bumps and bruises are bad enough! I also won't wear it in the shower, while doing dishes, washing my hands etc. It's also wise because that's just basic jewelry care lol. I do have to say though, since my fiance and I don't live together, I'll put it on when I'm just lounging around at home Smiley heart
Maybe look for an alternative! Whenever I'm not wearing my official engagement ring, I wear a silicone one, especially to work.

I take mine off all the time!

I work a lot from home and being someone who doesn't wear a lot of jewelry already it feels strange to put a ring on while I am in leggings on my computer. Also my engagement ring is a family heirloom so I am super afraid to lose it or damage it.

So when I choose to wear the ring it feels extra special to me! Do what feels right for you Smiley smile

Some days I feel like I take mine off more than I wear it. I don't sleep with it on, I take it off when I workout, shower, clean, do dishes, do laundry, yard-work... really I wear it when I'm working at my office and when I'm out and about running errands. Otherwise, I'm like you, I don't want to mess it up or cause it to be dull (I know cleaning it brings back shine but still) by wearing it during tasks I shouldn't have it on during. That being said, I think it's best for you to do whatever feels right to you. If your FH isn't upset because you don't wear your ring 24/7, I wouldn't pay any mind to anyone else - that's just me though.

I suppose it depends on the job. I work with kids everyday and I wear mine most of the time unless I'm cleaning dishes at home. My fiancee he is a hvac tech and he doesn't wear his because of safety reasons

I take my ring off right before I get ready for bed, sometimes early if I make a messy supper and I put it back on right when I wake up. I want to get some of the silicone bands after we are married. You do whatever you feel comfortable doing. Who cares what other people think.

I take my rings off for:

    Showering
    Swimming
    Gym
    Sports practices and competitions

Physical household activities such as cooking, baking, washing dishes, cleaning and gardening are also good times to not wear Jewelry.

I consulted with our jeweler on this shortly after getting engaged. Please see the attached photos of my conversation as a guide to answer your question.
