Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I take mine off when I shower, swim, go to the beach, sleep and sometimes to go to the gym. Before my bachelorette I actually got an inexpensive fake one to wear so I didn't have to worry about losing my real one on a cruise or swimming in the Bahamas. Now, I'm planning to wear that for my honeymoon too. It's expensive and then add in sentimental value I'd be devastated if i lost it, but still wanted to wear something, especially when it's a celebration you know everyone's going to be looking at your hands.

When I first got engaged, I would take it off any time I thought I might damage it (even just washing my hands). After about 2 weeks of that and being paranoid of losing it, I started keeping it on most of the time. I'll take it off when I shower since my fingers swell a little from the hot water OR whenever I'm using chemicals (such as cleaning) that may damage/diminish it. I think it's all personal preference and I highly doubt any FH would be offended if you're taking it off here or there (as long as you don't lose it). Sounds like that family member is just being judgmental and wanted to dig at you.

I take off all my jewelry, ring included, when I get home everyday. The night I got engaged I slept with it on because I was so excited that I didn’t want to take it off, but then I started to worry about scratching it against the bed frame or something and took it off during the night.

I wear mine as often as possible. I take it off to go to the gym, shower, cook, and do any type of exercise or manual labor. I don't want anything to happen to it, or for it to get stuck on my finger!

I take mine off when I sleep, shower, and wash dishes. I also take it off periodically at work so it won’t get damaged.

I rarely take mine off but to each their own. Dont let someone try to shame you. If your fiance doesnt mind, why should you?

I wear my ring at all times unless I’m lifting weights or doing some other activities that require significant wear and tear on my hands in which case I wear my groove ring. That way I protect my engagement ring, but also have a ring on my ringer that’s safe and won’t get damaged!

For the most part, I don’t wear it when I’m home since I’m more than likely going to be doing something domestic (ie. Cooking, cleaning, ruffling though a pile of junk). When I leave, I’ll put it back on. Though, I don’t wear it when swimming, at the gym, etc.

Of course!!!! To start with it shows I am, very happily, taken. But more than that it shows that he loved me enough, I was enough, to put a ring on....

I waited almost 8 years to get it, you’re damn right I’m gonna wear it 24/7! Besides that it is absolutely stunning!!!

He picked it out by himself, and did a very good job, mixing the timeless & elegant with the large and sparkly....

The ring...

I only take it off to put lotion on, maybe to shower/wash hair, or do dishes. But other than that it’s on.

My mother NEVER took hers off... had to pry it off her finger when she had surgeries. lol She was that way about her wedding ring too. Back then everything was yellow gold and diamonds. My engagement ring is a pearl with diamonds, but because the pearl is generally so much more fragile, I take it off when I'm doing anything in the kitchen (hands are constantly being rinsed), cleaning and other times when I'm at home. I ALWAYS wear it out. I'm a major jewelry fiend, so I wear a good amount (why wear 1 bracelet when 4 are better kind of girl!) but I wear my ring our even when I don't put any other jewelry on.

I literally forget to wear mine all the time. I take it off to wash my hands or do dishes and leave it places then forget to put it back on. I have legitimately lost it at work and at home. It's your hand, your choice. Just because you're not wearing a ring doesn't mean you're not engaged.
If you're FH doesn't have a problem with it, then don't let anyone else let you feel bad about it. If he does, then talk about it. I can't tell you how many times through this wedding process people have told me the "right" way to do something. There is no right way. Just the way that feels right to you.

Although if you are taking your ring off because you don't want people to know you're engaged, that would be a problem. But I doubt you're doing that 😄

Though the decision is completely up to you. My FH loves that I wear it 24/7. I would feel the same when he gets his ring, I wouldn’t want him to take it off 😆. But for work or working out we bought him a silicone one on amazon

Engagement rings can be expensive. So being like me and losing it places is not the best idea.

I take mine often, sometimes I go a whole week without wearing it. If I’m cooking, depending on the work out, at work or sometimes my finger gets a little swollen and I’ll just take it off.

I take mine off when showering, at the gym and cleaning. I think everyone is different with their preference. I feel naked without mine now. Don’t feel bad about it!

I usually take it off when I use my shower gloves so it

doesn't catch lint. Also when making meatballs. Sometimes I turn it inwards for short periods of time when I'm trying to get comfy in our threaded sofa or putting a sweater on.

I wear my ring 24-7. The only task I would ever take it off for is when I am cooking/eating something VERY messy that I don’t want to get on it. Sometimes I also paint and I take it off for painting of course. I keep it on for daily tasks including swimming showering and sleeping. It’s a preference thing. Wear it when you are comfortable wearing it and don’t let anyone make you feel bad about it! Good luck 💕

I take it off at night and put it on before I leave in the morning. I also take it off when I shower or wash dishes/the dog. Sometimes when I eat a messy burger.
But it's YOUR ring, so YOUR rules. The only other person whose opinion should matter when it comes to this is your partner's. Stand your ground! Do what's best for you!
