Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I wear it all the time, I take it off to clean it or if I am cooking (baking and mixing with my hands) on occasion. I would rather it get dirty than lose it though, so typically I just keep it on.

Mine comes off as soon as I get home! I also keep it home when I know I’ll be out using my hands a lot like lifting heavy groceries, moving boxes, cleaning, etc. I’m also considering leaving mine home for my bach party and getting a fake one for the occasion. No shame Smiley smile

I take mine off when cooking and cleaning. Otherwise, I have it on.

I take mine off if I’m cooking, cleaning or showering and before bed like my other jewelry. Idk how some women keep it on 24/7 that is crazy!!

I had a similar conversation with my future in-laws. They were amazed and very concerned when I told them I take mine off when I shower or do dishes, and occasionally when I go to bed. At first I was offended by their judgement but now don’t mind it because it’s a personal decision. I have my reasons and they are to preserve the ring. And it’s not wrong either way, as long as you have it on for the most important parts like when you are in public (to signify the fact that you are taken). I think you should do what you and your future spouse are comfortable with regardless what others think. Smiley smile

I take it off before I go to the gym, doing any housework or yard work, washing my hands, showering.. you’re not supposed to. My jeweler told us to take them off when we get home and only wear them when we leave.. I def don’t go that far. I love seeing my sparkler!

I take mine off when I am doing anything that might damage it, at the gym, while showering, working in the yard, etc.

I take mine off while I'm sleeping, showering, doing dishes, and washing my hands. And sometimes when it gets too hot during the summer I'll take it off.

To each their own, but I barely ever take my engagement ring off (mostly because I'm the type to misplace it). I personally don't like the idea of not wearing it because to me it feels disrespectful to my fiance in some way. However, I take it off to shower, occasionally when I am using cleaners, and when I work out (But I don't like the feeling of not having it on so I wear a rubber ring to represent it). I don't think there is an issue with you not wearing your ring in your own home. If you're worried about it losing shine I highly recommend the diamond dazzle stick on amazon. It works wonderfully for cleaning rings and shining them up. Also, getting your ring insured would be a good option so you don't have to be afraid of damaging it.

I have also heard of people getting another fake ring to wear on vacations or to their bachelorette parties for fear of damaging the real one. I think I am going to do that.

The point is, it is YOUR ring and YOUR choice. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for your choices.

I don’t wear mine when I’m doing my hair, washing dishes, cleaning, and sometimes at work or class (I work at a hospital and a nursing student). I forget to get my ring inspected sometime, but I haven’t lost a diamond yet. However my ring did get a little discolored after 2 years but I sent it to get replated, I think that’s the word they used lol.
Its your ring and you should wear it when you want. If your FH has an issue with it he should let you know and you guys can compromise on when you should and shouldn’t wear it.

By force of habit I take off all of my jewelry when I get in the house but I know to put my ring on whenever I leave. I can’t sleep in it because I sleep with my hand by my face and let’s just say... the result in the morning won’t be a pretty one.

I Work In healthcare..hands on patients all day. For my safety and there’s, I never wear my real rings at work. Only the new rubber ones that are like $20/pack of six. It was never a topic of discussion for Fiancé and I given my line of work.

I take my ring of when I do my chores at home and sometimes I forget to put it on in the morning because I’m rush out of the house to get to work. And it is okay. It happens sometimes. Nobody has the right to judge. Do not allow someone make you feel bad about it and don’t feel bad about it. You are fine.

I take it off when I workout, shower, sleep, wash my hands, do the dishes, and get home. I totally agree with taking it off to preserve it!!

Well I'm newly engaged and I take mine off when I'm cooking or working in the yard. It's really up to you - I agree with a previous comment - everyone is different in that aspect. I think "oldschoolers" would say never take it off but it's really up to you. I love my ring but it's ok to let your fingers breathe, it doesnt make the engagement go away just because you dont have your ring on.

I take a lot of pride in how much time and effort my fiance put in to find me this perfect ring and i would hate for something bad to happen to it. I take it off when i work my serving job, do dishes, shower, ESPECIALLY when i sleep because of cotton, but other than that i have it on because its weird when its not lol
