Men's Warehouse

So our wedding colors are light grey and iris (the bridesmaids dresses are iris). My vision was to have my fiance in a light grey tux and he wanted the platinum vest and tie and everything and then his son (who is 7 and his junior best man) would match. Then his best man in light grey with the iris vest and tie and everything and my son (who is 7 and the ring bearer) would match him. So yesterday my fiance and his best man went to Men's Warehouse to get their fittings. Well they had an iris vest, but it was like bandanna print and super ugly and the guy told my fiance they don't have any other vest in that color, but they did have the tie so we said we would just have everyone in the platinum vests and then his best man and my son would have the iris tie and pocket square.. well they then said they don't have an iris pocket square.. so the only thing they have in the color I wanted was the tie.. which I think will be okay, but just wasn't what I was wanting originally.. then in the light grey tux they have, my fiance (who is a bodybuilder) will have to BUY a jacket on top of renting all the other stuff... and that isn't cheap. Finally he called me and said I was going to need go with him this weekend coming up and make these decisions because he doesn't want anything messed up (which I wanted to go in the first place lol but he didn't want to bring both the kids at that time because they are crazy!) But it's just so frustrating. I don't ever remember there being such a limited selection and my sister who got married 2 and a half years ago and my fiances brother who got married a year and a half ago didn't have these issues. I'm sure we will pick something and it'll look great but like.. I had a vision and I just wish things went as planned. Just needed to vent a little.

Are you set on Men's Warehouse or have you checked other places like The Black Tux?

I don't like men's warehouse, they don't treat people like they matter, you are just a number. Try a different shop for what you want. I went to a smaller family owned shop and they ordered what we needed in the colors we wanted. We were treated like our wedding was important and they did the same offer for a free tux for the groom. Shop around too, you might be able to order the tie and pocket square online for minimal cost.

Men’s warehouse seemed to have super limited options when we went too. We were really not happy with that and with other things about it... the sales guy was pushy, insistent on his own opinions over ours, and we later discovered he lied and charged us extra for things we didn’t ask for. We also had a negative experience with the black tux (though many people on here have had great experiences there so don’t write it off based on mine alone!) but they literally sent us the wrong size jacket for the at-home trial (like we had requested a certain size and they sent a size too big) and when we asked if they could send the correct size, they said no because he had already done his at-home trial 😒

This past weekend we went to a local place (also where my brother got his tux for prom a few years ago, so we had experiences with them) and were thrilled with the service and the selection. I feel like local places often end up being better (better selection and better service) because they have to work harder to stay in business than a place like men’s warehouse.

I’d recommend just checking out a local place and seeing if the selection is better!

How does the Black Tux work with making sure the size is right and everything because my fiance has a small waist but his upper half is huge from bodybuilding.

I'm not sure, I was just providing other options.

You fill out a questionairre for the sizing and it then it suggests sizes based on your answers. You can input your own sizes too.

They also have fit specialists you can talk to if your particularly concerned or if FH has unique measurements.

My FH went with a tailor instead. Due to the generic, bad service of MW. He opted for a custom suit which is under 1k and he picked everything himself. I would look around before committing to MW especially since it wont go with your vision and you will end up paying more for a rental. Not worth it.

If you have something in mind, go elsewhere. They are a quantity over quality type of place. FH and I used men's warehouse because we wanted something simple that all the groomsmen could easily get to (as some are all over the place). We also had the added benefit that their coloring matched the matron of honor (due to their partnership with david's bridal). This appeases my "needs to be perfectly matched or intentionally different" pet-peeve.

Thank you all for your advice. Just frustrating when things don’t go smoothly. I will talk to my fiancé and we will come up with a plan!

My fiancé is very tall, so we had a difficult time choosing suits for him in other stores. At Men’s Wearhouse however, they just took him and measured him and we got a custom suit. It was easy with Wearhouse, but hard at the other places. I’d say ask for custom colors

You can order fabric samples from Azazie in a ton of colors. I'm not talking about swatches--actual fabric samples, like at the fabric store. I was looking at this today. You pick the color and fabric you want, and they ship you a piece of fabric that's like 4 feet square! You can make your own pocket squares. Just an idea to try to match the color.
