How many of you KNEW he was going to propose?

*~WiiFeY~*, on May 10, 2010 at 11:24 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 74

While reading some posts on here I realized that alot of girls KNOW that he has bought a ring and say they are "waiting" on the proposal.. I had never even heard of that, but reading these WW message boards I see it happens all the time! I was completely surprised with my proposal and knew nothing about it.. And wouldn't have it any other way, but I definitely see the perks of "knowing". What do you guys think? How did it happen for you?? Just nosey and making conversation Smiley smile

I absolutely knew about the proposal ahead of time. I knew just how it was all going to take place. I knew the poem that was written for it and everything. Well, I was the one who did the proposing, so I think that makes perfect sense. LOL. Smiley smile

I didn't know. I like that "surprise" factor the way it happened for us... I didn't pick out my ring, we didn't even go look together... Of course the occasional wedding/marriage came up b/w us and then with our parents.. but I actually thought it might just happen around Christmas.. but he did it a few weeks before.. I don't think I would want to know though honestly!

We didn't really have a formal proposal; we had talked several times about wanting to get married, so we were pretty much on the same page. I knew he wanted to do some kind of fancy proposal thing, so it was actually really surprising when he just kind of blurted out one morning: "So, do you want to get married before we graduate?" (Given that we've got just a little over a year left.)

Personally, I'm not a big fan of over-complicated gestures and I was REALLY afraid he was going to put the ring in food, so I was very happy with how it actually played out. We went online and picked the ring together a few days later--he'd already been looking, so he basically had something ready for me to "approve," which I did. Smiley laugh

I knew he was going to propose. I didn't know the details, but I knew it was going to be the weekend it happened. He didn't even do it how he was supposed to. He was supposed to make a big scene, but he did it just me and him. I didn't even know he had the ring, I knew he hadn't bought one, but it was his grandmother's. That was a complete shock to me.

@Shannon- LOL halfway through i was thinking "what the heck why would you want to know all that stuff that ruins it?!" until i read the end Smiley winking but was SHE surprised??

@Amber- We had talked about marriage (we've been together for 7 years) and it was a given that we'd be getting married.. I just had no idea he'd propose when he did. I loved it that way Smiley smile

@Cabell- I always said if it wasn't a "surprise" I'd rather just decide together that we'd get married.. So I like it that way too. Fancy proposal or not, it would've melted my heart just to hear him say "wanna get married?" lol Smiley smile Oh, and I would've shot my FH if he put my ring in food... He just took me somewhere special and alone and got down on one knee and asked.. No food, no fancy schmancy extraordinary proposal lol

Im actually not engaged yet... I know its going to happen soon, I know he is currently getting a ring (or has gotten it) but its something we have openly been dicussing for about a year now. He wanted to make sure I had my say in what kind of ring is purchased but ultimately I wanted what ring and when the proposal will be to be a surprise. =)

I knew that he was going to propose sometime soon BUT not when he did because we both knew of his brother proposing on Valentine's Day so I was waiting for his fiancee's big surprise and it ended up being me first! LOL!

I knew it was going to happen, but I had no idea when.

We had been talking about getting married, and wanting to spend the rest of our lives together. FH took me looking at rings back in January, as he wanted to get an idea of what I liked. But as far as I knew he had never actually bought the ring. The ring he bought was actually perfect, and we hadn't even seen anything like it when we went looking.

We were taking a trip back to the UK to meet my family, so I had a feeling he would at least have a conversation with my dad, but the proposal itself caught me completely off guard.

@Cabell: we didn't have a "formal" proposal either.. I came home one night from visiting my cousin who just came from the hospital, and while he was playing Xbox I got our daughter to sleep... When I got ready to put her in her bed FH came in to get ready for bed himself.. When I went back in her room to feed her fish, I noticed the box in her crib.. talk about complete shock... His original plan was to have her give it to me.. but I got her to sleep too fast.. lol.. but I don't think I would have had it any other way!!!

My ring is my grandmother's. When my grandfather died, my grandmother gave the ring to my mom and asked her to hold it until FH and I were ready to get engaged. My mom told me, and I told FH, so his proposal had two steps. The first was when he said, "Let's go ask your mom for the ring," and the second was when he proposed with the ring. But when, where, and how the ring came back to me was a surprise. He made me a pop-up book, and he put the ring in a pocket at the end.

    Hi Katie Smiley smile

I knew. We bought the ring together. This past Christmas break seemed very "weird" to be going on a "surprise" trip to Disneyland with his 20 closest relatives. LOL. I knew it was going to happen THERE, just didn't know WHEN it would happen. His mom scheduled "family pictures" with a Disney photographer by the spinning tea cups and THEN I KNEW. LOL. It was great. I have pics of it in my profile pics section Smiley smile I had Minnie ears on and everything Smiley smile

My FH had asked me on two other accounts. and I took him as just playing around because we had discussed that we wanted to marry one another. But I kind of blew him off. Not meaning too. Later I found out he was being serious. But hadn't talked to my step dad yet. So I knew something was up. But the day he did it I was 100% surprised. 1. He had a ring.. I had no idea he actually had one for me! and 2. He actually got down on one knee. The first two times when I thought he was playing around we were in the car and he couldn't get on one knee.

Thanks Mistie.. he's pretty shy when it comes to all the mushy gushy stuff.. but he has his moments... He actually did it that night last minute, cuz he's a lineman and his foreman told him to pack for 2 weeks that they may go on a storm call the next morn.. ( he had to be at work at 4am) so he did it in case he wasn't back for Christmas.. so on such short notice it was perfect!!!

@Katie: We've been together for 7 years too!!! Smiley smile It was also a given for us to be married..we were actually engaged one time before, but i think we were a little too young then... this time is so much better and it's alot more "real" idk.. weird..

@katie... We'd talked about getting married, and she knew that I wanted to give her my grandmother's e-ring. I wanted to make sure she was ok with that. She LOVED it but knew that I was going to have to ask my mom (out of respect for her) if it was ok to give it and also if it was ok for me to get the band changed from yellow gold to white. So yes, she knew that a proposal was going to happen "one day" and had a pretty good idea that I was going to do it on the 1 year anniversary of our first "I love you's". I told her I'd got her a "little something" for our anniversary, so she guessed. She didn't know the "how" though.

We had talked about it before. I went with him to look at rings. I didn't know when it was coming or how creative he would be.

As for the question---I knew he wanted to. We knew we were going to get married but we had a VERY informal proposal. He proposed while we were getting ready for bed haha then we ordered the ring and when we got it he opened it and proposed while I was brushing my teeth hahaha :-)
