Has anyone ever been to a reception that pig roast was served?

Chelsea, on August 15, 2012 at 7:28 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

I would have never thought I'd agree to have a pig roast on our menu, but I did! It always seemed kind of "hillbilly-ish" to us, but it was SO delicious at our taste testing. It is accompanied with a signature cranberry bbq sauce. We would like to have a 2nd choice of meat (probably chicken) and a few sides. Has anyone every been to a wedding reception that served pork from a pig roast? If so, what did you think?

    That sounds AWESOME....

I've never been served that at a wedding, but I DID grow up with a Hawaiian family in our church that always had a luau every summer. The pig was always the highlight of the event.

    Great choice!

I've done a couple (as a caterer) and I think it was fantastic!!! Go for it! But do some other things too, like chicken skewers, veggies skewers and lots of salads. I love the idea!

I am going to one in October. I don't eat meat, so it doesn't thrill me. My DH is excited though - he loves the idea!

That was my only request--to not have the whole pig in sight! I now feel better that there are some people who liked it!

I have attended weddings, christenings and First Holy Communions that have served pig. In Italian culture, it is called, porchetta and it is quite tasty. It is actually a huge deal and in Italy is a regular part of a wedding feast.

We actually bought freshly sliced porchetta from home for our welcome dinner. We served it(along with many sides and sausage and peppers) as a sandwich.

I think it sounds wonderful. I do agree that I wouldn't really want to see the pig, though. LOL!

As others have said, this is done in Hawaii all the time. Then, in Italy, the Cinghiale, Wild Boar..a photo of a painting of a Cinghiale I took, at a friends home and vineyard, in Montegrossoli, Italy. LOL!

I went to a wedding that did a pig roast about 2 years ago and it was awesome. The pig was never in sight in it's whole form so that was good. They also had bbq sauce to go with it, salad, corn on the cob, rolls, and i'm not sure what else as it was over 2 years ago. The food was really good though and the wedding was far from hillbilly. You can 100% do a pig roast without it being all that is in the rest of the details of your day.

Omg, yes! My FH's parents did that for their wedding way back in the 70's. All of their friends from back in the day still talk about how much they loved it.

I have not, but it could be fun. I wanted to do a roast calf (we don't eat pork as it's not kosher), but we are going for two different buffets, one kosher, one non since it will be a mixed crowd.
