Estimates from the florist- are they itemized? (vendors welcome!)

Labake , on May 17, 2012 at 9:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

Hey girls (and guys)

FH and I got estimates for our flowers. We got a list of stuff we asked for and then a price. FH and I would like to know where our money goes. We asked the florist for an itemized estimate. The florist said they don't itemize their estimates. FH is not ok with that. I am not ok with that.

Have you ladies ever heard that floral estimates are not itemized? Is this common?

Chime in!

Mine was itemized. Keep looking if she can't give you what you want.

When my co-worker was looking for florists, she got itemized quotes -- Brides bouquet, bridesmaids, boutonnierres, centerpieces... Don't think it's common, I agree, look elsewhere if you can.

I worked at a florist. When we had a bride/groom/parents ask that, they were more than willing to itemize it. Not down to every last stem, but more like "Bouquet is $--- Bridesmaids are $--- x how many girls, Bouts and Corsages $---, Centerpieces $---, "labor/set up/delivery/any rentals were also included but not lumped together.

They have to get the prices from somewhere to give YOU prices so they should have no problem telling you.

Im not using a florist but I know my sister's was itemized because we used it to help us decide on numbers of the wedding party when we weren't sure how many she wanted.

I agree with the others, look elsewhere.

Our list was itemized down to the last penny. I agree with your FH I really wanted to see what each item was costing, and how much it would be if we added more centerpieces, or had less grandparents attend etc. If you are unhappy I would look elsewhere.

Our list was itemized, there is something wrong if they can't give you that.

When I went to meet with a prospective florist, she itemized the costs on the sheet she worked on in front of me and then told me the total quote. But she wouldn't give me the the sheet to take home unless I book. I still was able to see all the itemized quotes, but I had to remember them. I did decide to book her and she mailed me the itemized quote within a couple days.

    Yes, it should be itemized.

We met with two different florists - both quotes were itemized, we didn't even have to ask. I would definitely not be okay with not seeing an itemized quote - how do you know if you are getting a fair price or not if you can't see how much each thing costs?

    Mine was itemized.

Even if it isn't general practice for them to itemize, if a client asks for it they should do it. It isn't that hard, they are just being lazy. And if they are being lazy with something that simple what else are they going to try to take shortcuts with?

Mine was itemized for bouquets, corsages, bout, centerpiences, etc and even rental items. i agree if no breakdown I would look else where. that should be a standard requirement.

Ours was itemized as well. She was also good about letting us know the cost increase or decrease if we added flowers to a particular bouquet, etc.

They should be able to tell you how much each will cost (centerpieces, bouquets, boutonnieres). If not, I would move on.

The florist we went with was itemized. We did have a meeting with another florist who didn't itemize which we didn't like either! If they can't do it I would let them know the contract is in jeopardy

Florist should automatically give you an itemized estimate showing the cost per item then the total amount including labor. The only thing that they will NOT show is THEIR cost (wholesale price). The itemized estimate they provide to you will be retail.

I had one florist that sent me a flat price, no itemizing, 2 other quotes were itemized. We went with one of the itemized, both were the same price but i liked where the second one was spending the money. Definetly keep looking.

We had itemized, too. Ours even gave us options for prices, like different flower girl baskets and the prices of each.

I came across 2 florists that did not itemize and I ended up with one that did. I prefer it that way, the florist that itemized turned out to be very reliable.

The other 2 florists that did not itemize were not very responsive either.

It's hard to say what the correlation is, if any, but if you get a gut feeling to go another way, trust it!
