I wanted to do one but my dads parents are divorces so he asked me not to do it.

I also had a couple of widows in the crowd so after rethinking I though it would be in bad taste Smiley sad

I was planning on giving them my bouquet but I ended up leaving it in the limo

A bottle of champagne would be a nice gift if you know who it is and know that they drink

We are talking about doing this and giving the couple the bouquet and garter in lieu of tossing them both. I don't want to do a bouquet toss, so we thought this might be a better idea.

I'm sorry, I'm lost. I've never heard of this. Jamie can you tell me what this is?

I plan on doing one. I saw it done for the first time at FSIL's wedding and it was my favorite dance of the whole night!

I plan to do one too. My friend had one at her wedding, and I had never seen one before. I thought it was the cutest thing!

Julie, basically the DJ calls all married couples out on the floor for a special dance. He then asks anyone married less than 1 year to leave the floor. Then 5 years, 10 years, etc., until there is only one couple left, who receive a round of applause and maybe something special like the bride's bouquet or a bottle of champagne.

I'm not sure what kind of song yet, definitely not a traditional wedding song though.

Hmmm, my grandmother is a widow, my parents are both divorced, dad is remarried....I've expressed this idea and nobody said anything. Do you think it's still ok to do?

We're doing an anniversary dance. Because we're not doing the bouquet and garter toss she is making a vase of flowers for the anniversary dance. Then I was thinking a gift card to a restaurant or a bottle of wine.

Hmmm, I thought about maybe a gift card to a steak house? There is a well know Steakhouse in St Paul that everyone just goes crazy for.

Anniversary or Generation Dances are very popular now, lots of fun, and a great photo opportunity. We most often play Endless Love by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross, and the gift is usually a bouquet.

Awwww I love that song! Maybe a bouquet of roses and a nice bottle of champagne or wine would be fit :-)

If you do this...be aware of your audience. I wanted to do this, but my grandmother (who I am very close to) is widowed and is already feeling very uncomfortable going to my wedding without a date. My other set of grandparents and FH's grandparents are still married. I know that one of these set of grandparents would "win." I feel like this would just upset my grandma. I know it is my day, but she has struggled with depression for many years, and I don't want to do anything that make anyone in the audience feel anything but happy and cheerful. A wedding is a celebration after all.

With that being said, I think this is a great idea! Just make sure you won't make anyone you or your FH cares about feel blue and lonely. If this is the case, I would suggest finding out who this anniversary couple is and giving them a gift in a more private way.

We are planning on doing this. I already know that it will be my grandparents who are married 58 years. I'm thinking I will give them a flowers and a box of candy for my grandfather

I'm not sure who it will be....FH's parents have been married 44 years. My grandfather has been gone for more than 10 years now. She has handled it very well considering the circumstances and has gone on a few "outings" with men but she doesn't show much interest. She's perfectly fine doing what she wants to do. Uh, I hope I'm making the right choice :-/

We had an anniversary dance for the fun of it. We already knew who would "win" but we got a gift card for them to go out to dinner anyways.
