Food and drink are a major part of the wedding experience (no one wants hangry guests!), so it’s no surprise that you’ll spend a big amount of your total budget on your wedding catering. The average wedding catering cost in the U.S. is about $4,000 with most couples spending between $1,800 to $7,000. Note that wedding catering prices do vary widely depending on your wedding’s location and many other factors, like guest count—but no matter where you’re getting married, delicious and plentiful food is essential to an amazing wedding reception experience.

What is included in a wedding catering package?

Your wedding catering may be provided by your wedding venue, or you may want or need to hire an outside caterer. Reading a wedding catering contract can be a bit confusing, but in general, your wedding catering cost will be priced on a “per person” basis. A standard wedding catering package includes the following:

Food: The wedding food cost is the most obvious part of a wedding catering package. You’re paying for the actual food that your guests will eat during cocktail hour and the main meal. Whether it’s served plated or buffet style is up to you and your caterer.
Beverages: Your caterer will likely provide beverages, both alcoholic and not, for your big day.
Staffing: From your event manager to cooks, servers, bartenders, and more, there are lots of staffers that will go into making your wedding day a success. It’s important to work with your caterer to make sure that you have enough people on hand to ensure a smooth reception.
Rentals: Your caterer may also provide rentals, from tables to chairs, dishes to glassware, utensils, and more. Some venues provide these rentals, or you may need to hire a separate rentals company.
Additional fees: Caterers may charge additional costs and fees, including cake cutting fees, corkage fees, and more. Be sure to read your contract carefully—and ask questions—to make sure you understand your wedding catering cost.

What are the different ways to serve wedding reception food?

When determining your wedding food cost, a big factor will be how you’re planning on serving the meal. There are a few serving style options for weddings:

Plated: Otherwise known as a sit-down meal, your guests will be served their meal at their table by a member of the wait staff. There may be a single entrée option served or several entrée options, which your guests can either order in advance (usually on their RSVP card) or at the event. This is the most formal and traditional of wedding serving styles.
Buffet: For a more casual serving style, guests serve themselves from a buffet station. Fifty percent of couples choose a buffet-style reception.
Family-Style: Servers provide large platters of food to reception tables, and guests pass the trays around and serve themselves.

Most of the time, a wedding reception buffet is indeed less expensive than a plated dinner. They were beyond helpful during our entire planning process and truly executed their job perfectly the day of our clients event. They went above and beyond to help with last minute changes and we can not thank them enough for that. NOW, let's talk about the food! When a crowd of 180 people are completely clearing their plates and wanting more, you know you are doing something right. And that banana pudding..... OH MY GOSH! Words cannot explain how grateful, thankful, appreciative, and happy my wife and I were with Felicia, Fusion Events, and their ENTIRE team. If you're not interested in reading a long review, heres the short review: stop looking for other vendors, and hire Felicia and her team already. Trust me! To expand, from the very beginning, Felicia was incredibly responsive, helpful, attentive, and sweet. She arranged a food tasting for my wife and I and we were in love with her food. It is worth noting that my wife and I are huge foodies and were really struggling to find good wedding food. We had tastings with three different vendors before trying Felicia’s food and they were all just standard & basic wedding food. When we had our tasting with Felicia, we were obsessed! Every single item she put out was so delicious. And the very minor tweaks we had, for example adding a little more garlic salt to the mashed potatoes, she made sure to make note of and make a change to on our wedding day. Every single one of our guests raved about the food. This is NOT just your standard wedding food. This is truly amazing food that my wife and I, even 6 days after our wedding, are STILL craving. (Felicia, please send us more Korean short rib tacos) Beyond the food, Felicia GETS THINGS DONE!! We had some issues on the day of the wedding with another vendor of ours that unfortunately slowed things down. When Felicia arrived at the venue with her team, she knew how to delegate and ensure that our wedding was everything we wanted it to be. This was not her job. But she went above and beyond for us and I am so so grateful to have hired her. She is truly such a pleasure to work with and when our plans were slightly soiled, she was there to assure us everything was just fine and not to worry. She treated my wife and I like family and that is beyond business! We are so happy to have hired her and highly highly recommend her to all of you! Also, you will not find this type of food or service for the price she offers. Thank you so much Felicia & Fusion!!

I recently ordered a large citrus fruit board, salmon crostinis, and coconut cloud drinks from Graze n Munch for my baby shower, and I was absolutely blown away. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. First, the quality of the ingredients was outstanding. You can immediately tell they use high-quality, fresh ingredients—Every single piece of fruit was vibrant, fresh, and bursting with flavor. This isn't your average grocery store fruit platter. The board was so aesthetically pleasing that it became the centerpiece of our event. The crostini toppings were gourmet and the bread was freshly homemade. The cheeses were artisanal, and the crostini toppings were flavorful. The Coconut cloud drinks were a perfect complement to the food. What truly sets Graze n Munch apart is their artistry. Every item was placed with intention. From the delicate edible flower garnishes to perfectly rolled salmon slices. Every item was a feast for the eyes before it was a feast for the stomach. My guests couldn't stop taking pictures of it! On top of the amazing food, the customer service was fantastic. They were so friendly, responsive, and accommodating. They made the entire process seamless and stress-free. They listened to my needs and delivered a product that exceeded all my expectations.
