History
James and Dolley Madison owned the land that is now Wolftrap Farm during their lifetimes. They called it Black Meadow, and often visited it from their Montpelier home, just across the mountain. The farm is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Registry. It has been a dairy farm, a thoroughbred horse farm in prior years. Acquired by the Cuthrell family of Virginia Beach in 2003, the farm was opened for guests and their events in 2004.
Location
Offering scenic views of the southwest mountains, Wolftrap Farm is located five miles southeast of James Madison’s Montpelier home and rests atop the last foothills of the Piedmont. It is 20 miles from Charlottesville, an hour's drive from Richmond, and 100 miles from Washington, D.C.
