Penny has a really great approach to designing wedding cakes! During our consultation, we didn’t have a very clear idea of what we wanted. Luckily, Penny was full of great ideas! She asked us questions about what vibe we were going for, what our venue was like, and what was important to us both aesthetically and sentimentally for the cake to reflect.

We were already feeling pretty good about Penny after one phone call with her. THEN we tasted the cake. It was MUCH higher quality then the two other bakers we tasted cakes from. After that we were sold. We hired her to a design a wedding cake that reflected the venue (a rooftop farm in Brooklyn). She came up with the really cool idea of designing a cake that reflected the distinctive bluestone pathways and wildflower groves that distinguish the venue. I felt like I had a unique, meaningful work of art at my wedding!

She handled all the logistics of getting the cake to the venue with our coordinators so we did not need to deal with any of that ourselves.

I first spotted one of Penny’s fondant creations in a New York Magazine article showcasing wedding cakes that were museum-worthy works of art by themselves. I fell in love with her cake right then and there, which I’d contracted her to recreate for me before I bought my wedding dress! She had a wide variety of flavors to choose from, ranging from the traditional to the more exotic (like lemongrass sponge-cake and passion fruit buttercreams). All in all, her cakes are beautiful and delicious, inside and out.

In addition, Penny was amazing to work with as she’d custom-designed two macaron flavors for our escort cards and two types of desserts to accompany the wedding cake for our guests. She was very patient with me and the many questions I had. She was so nice to offer me advice on aspects of planning my wedding that didn’t have to do with the cake and the sweets. I would definitely go back to her again to have her design a cake or a special dessert for another event in the future.

Penny at Sugar Couture is exceptionally talented and a pleasure to work with. My daughter-in-law wanted a groom's cake for my son at their wedding. Since he's in the collector car business, the cake had to be a car but not just any car. It had to be an old Aston Martin DB4. The cake was AMAZING! It looked like a scaled model of the car, down to the side view mirrors, spokes on the wheels and license plate frame. Apart from how fantastic it looked, it tasted delicious. I would highly recommend Sugar Couture!

Penny made a beautiful and delicious cake for our wedding. When we met, I appreciated her approach to start with a rough sketch of the cake, exploring the visual ideas we had for our wedding before we went on to the tasting. I also have food allergies, so she was able to make the top tier gluten and dairy free for me. The depth and richness of flavor for gf/df was great. Her sugar anemone flowers were gorgeous too!

They are so amazing. I picked out this lovely red velvet cake that had edible gold leafs around it. The style of the cake was absolutely stunning and delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone.

The MOST Beautiful Cake. I have always loved Sugars cakes My friends have had beautiful and delicious wedding cakes so I knew they would be fantastic and they were. The cake was so beautiful and tasted like the best cake I have ever had. Thank you so much for such a perfect delicious cake. Can't wait until the next wedding. Penny is just amazing. Our cake was the most beautiful cake I could have ever imagined - she created this intricate wrap-around of sugar flowers that no one believed were real. That's how amazing the cake looked. When I saw it for the first time, it actually took my breath away.

Not only that, but Penny is just the warmest, sweetest woman to work with. She customized a tasting for us before we even booked her (at no cost), which I found to be rare amongst other cake designers. She said with us for an hour while we tasted her cakes (which were absolutely delicious), and sketched designs for us as we described what we might want. The end result was a cake that was simply gorgeous, and delicious as well. Thank you Penny!

Penny was superb. She not only custom-designed our cake, but she also created 5 signature desserts that reflected our personalities and interests. She even created paczkis (a Polish dessert) that honored my family's background and create desserts that made everyone go "YUM!" at the reception.

She was extremely responsive and helpful. She even helped us find the perfect cake stand by doing her own independent Google search. If you want excellent service and superb value for an amazing price - go with Penny. She even provided two separate tastings. All the desserts were gobbled up at the wedding - and we ordered extra!!

We keep getting texts from friends and family saying how much they miss eating those desserts...and it's two weeks after the wedding. Penny left an impression!
