About

Suzan Hoffman Zahedi has been collecting emotions, metal, seeds, pods, paper, textures and words since she was 11. Writing poetry, painting t-shirts, and sewing were all part of her life and then at age 15, she found a way to express her life when her father taught her the art of jewelry making in their New York home studio. He encouraged her in finding her own sense of design and translating it into metal. She sold her first designs in high school, which were made of aluminum and brass, and then learned how to work with silver and gold.

Suzan is inspired by the look and feel of old things, the smooth and worn texture from years of being touched and used. Her home is a collector's vision of worn velvet, old books, painted and peeling metal, torn paper, and rocks worn by the sea, paired with clean white surfaces that highlight these visual details. Seeds and pods, their outer shape and the absolutely divine arrangement of the tiny insides, have always fascinated her.

Years of creating, a career in marketing and design, her love of metal craft, a lifetime of trial, and her entrepreneurial spirit gave rise to Suzan's unique jewelry business in 1996. Today, in SUZAN's Southern California studio, each piece of gold and silver jewelry is exquisitely hand crafted, incorporating Tahitian pearls, antique and handmade chains, and ancient beads and coins. These reclaimed treasures are paired with distinctive handmade silver and gold crosses, hearts, book pages, chains, toggles and clasps created with signature techniques that give her jewelry the beautiful luster and patina of being worn. "I love the feel and even the sound of metal, each of my pieces has a delightful sound and soothing smooth feel, this is what I love about them".

Word of mouth sells SUZAN's collections. Each piece becomes part of a woman's life and tells a story as pieces are bought, collected, and given as gifts to mark special occasions. The pieces can be worn short or long and layered with each other in unending combinations. Suzan loves that women say they get stopped on the street with compliments. Her jewelry extends beyond all trends and represents a marriage of the ancient and contemporary worlds. Juxtaposing rustic and elegant, classic and contemporary, cherished and treasured pieces can be worn with both jeans and evening finery.

Her comprehensive collection includes her Essentials-Gotta Have It line for everyday and every night, collectors Crazy Gorgeous pieces, jewelry for little girls called Little Bitz, Bride-to-Be jewels and gifts, Modern Heirlooms, and treasures specially designed for our faith journey—Divine Treasures. "Jewelry, to me, is an art that connects us to each other. We pass on special pieces to our children and grandchildren and give to our friends as symbols of love and affection---all which tell a story". Suzan also has a passion for giving, teaching and mentoring and donates from each sale to organizations helping the restoration of women and children surviving the trauma of abuse and neglect. "It's always about people, not things, she says, beauty and kindness can help us find our way".
