JULY 31 2021 WEDDING CELEBRATION REVIEW

Olga is the best baker in all of Austin! She is endlessly creative in the flavors and designs she creates. We had to reschedule our big wedding for July 2021, but she still made us a cake for our minimony on our original wedding date of June 2020 and we were so grateful for that. We finally got to have our big celebration and she put together a dreamy dessert spread for us -- a modern bride’s cake, a realistic drum groom’s cake (my husband is a band director and he was so excited about his cake), mini cupcakes in four flavors and two kinds of cookies. It looked beautiful and tasted delicious -- guests were telling me how much they enjoyed the sweets and wanted to know where they were from. The cherry on top is that Olga is one of the sweetest people and kindest small business owners in town. It’s now been a decade of me enjoying her treats, and I look forward to enjoying more of them for other special milestones in the future. We appreciate her time and talents, and know you will too for your big day!

JUNE 6 2020 MINIMONY REVIEW

Picking the vendor who would make our wedding cake was the easiest decision in our wedding planning process. Why? Because I knew exactly who I wanted -- Olga of Polkadots Cupcake Factory.

I first discovered Polkadots as a freshman at UT back in 2010, looking for a sweet treat near my dorm. One bite of my first cupcake at Olga’s and I was hooked! Her cupcakes are so delicious -- moist and flavorful with just the right amount of icing -- and she has a number of staples, rotating flavors and flavors of the month. I can’t count the number of cupcakes I had throughout college, but I can tell you I went through many of their loyalty punch cards! Olga also made a graduation cake for my twin brother and I when we became Texas Exes in 2013.

We still did a cake tasting to just enjoy trying some new flavors, which was fun and helped us decide what flavors to feature on our day. We decided to have a small wedding cake, a groom’s cake, mini cupcakes and cookies. Olga is always quick with communication and worked with us until we got our order just how we wanted it.

As COVID-19 became more serious in the states and restrictions were placed on gatherings, we started re-evaluating our wedding plans as our original date was 6/6/2020. Ultimately, we decided to still get married on our date with only immediate family present and reschedule our big celebration to a later, safer date for the rest of our family and friends to join us. It was a tough decision that not only affected us but also our vendors. Olga was so accommodating and encouraging through our replanning and rescheduling -- she agreed to move our big order to our rescheduled date and also make a small wedding cake for our replanned original date.

We picked up the cake the day before since we were getting married in New Braunfels and kept it in the fridge until the afternoon of the wedding. The cake was SO beautiful. It was simple and modern and had the perfect shade of purple. It held up outside all evening in 90-degree temperatures. We opted for her triple chocolate cake and it was a hit with everyone! We ended up having leftovers and sent some home with my family and my husband and I took the rest. We were able not only wrap a big piece to put in the freezer for our first anniversary, but we also put some in homemade ice cream! (One of our favorite hobbies is ice cream making.) We still had a few bites left about a week after the wedding and it was still just as moist and flavorful!

Olga is not only incredibly good at what she does and has an impressive range in the types of desserts and decorations she can create, she’s also a kind, caring and wonderful person and it’s been a joy to work with her. We can’t wait for our rescheduled date so we can enjoy a variety of her treats! Until then, we’ll make some visits for individual cupcakes just like the good ol’ days.

I might be a bit biased because I've loved Polkadots since they first opened. I've had plenty of their cupcakes and have ordered a custom cake in the past, so I knew it was the only option when it came to my wedding cake. I knew exactly the simple look I wanted and had an inkling about the flavor. We decided on strawberries and cream with vanilla buttercream and it was delicious! Olga was prompt and professional to work with, and she also helped place the flowers. The cake was a big hit and I recommend Polkadots!

Polka Dots did the cakes and cookie favors for our 150-person wedding in Austin earlier this month and did an absolutely stellar job with both. We had a lot of trouble deciding on a vendor to do our cakes and when we were still on the fence after our first few tastings, Olga from Polka Dots offered to do another tasting with us to help us make up our minds. It sounds weird but wedding cake is one of my favorite parts of any wedding, and so it was really important to me that we had a super delicious cake (which is surprisingly hard to find, even in a big market like Austin). In addition to being so friendly and fun to work with, Olga's commitment to making sure we got EXACTLY what we wanted in terms of cake flavors really stands out in my mind among all of our great vendor experiences. She was so flexible with us as we went back and forth about different icing and cake flavor combos, finally settling on three different cakes (one of which was a three-tier with two different flavors in it). We were less particular about design, and just sent her a couple of inspiration images, which actually had me, worrying leading up to the wedding that the cakes wouldn't look the way I'd hoped. On the day of the wedding when I walked into the venue to get ready, the cakes were the first thing that I saw and they absolutely blew me away with how beautiful they were. Even with our very limited guidance, Olga did a truly spectacular job making the cakes fit with the overall feel of our wedding and look just so, so beautiful. As I was waiting with my dad to walk down the aisle we were actually near the cakes again, and I couldn't stop commenting on how pretty they were (we got lots of complements from guests as well). Later in the night when we got to try the cake (we tried the funfetti one with strawberry cream cheese icing - sadly we were too busy dancing to get to try the others), I was so thrilled with how it had turned out taste-wise - a super moist, delicious wedding cake is rare and Olga nailed it. The little favor cookies that she made were also a huge hit and really made the place settings look special; we had a few leftover that we brought with us on our honeymoon and we continued to enjoy them for two weeks after the wedding. As someone who tried many different cake vendors in Austin before deciding to go with Olga, I can't encourage you enough to use Polka Dots for you wedding. You won't be disappointed!
