Facilities and Capacity
Even now, in its current state of a ruin, Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park holds true to commanding presence of a Greek temple on the hill and offers a beautifully unique and scenic setting for weddings. Get married atop the stairs between the buildings commanding pillars where what once was the structure's entrance. With stone wall details and crisp white walls, couples are given a blank canvas in which to design their dream wedding. The event spaces offered feature brick flooring and a raised wood deck where guests can view the ceremony or first dance from above. Add some additional romantic ambience with string lighting across the ruins. In the event of inclement weather, there are tents available to cover you and your guests from inside the structure, with a style that keeps the integrity of the space intact. The grounds provide additional space for photo opportunities, with lush green grass and mature trees.
Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park offers a unique atmosphere for couples who desire to add their own personal touch to their wedding decorations. This venue allows couples to contract outside vendors to take part in their wedding day. In addition to wedding ceremonies and receptions, the venue is available to host rehearsal dinners, elopements, engagement parties, and wedding showers. Wedding event services offered include the following:
Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park is an outdoor, stabilized ruin of a former Victorian-era all-girls school. Prior to becoming a wedding venue, this building served as a summer resort hotel for wealthy Baltimore residents, a private estate, and Maryland’s first summer stock theatre. From the 1950s to the 1960s this building sat vacant, which led it to deteriorate into what remains today, a stabilized ruin. Architect Robert Cary Long, Jr. designed the school.

Beautiful and Accommodating Venue!
Patapsco Female Institute (PFI) was the perfect wedding venue for my now husband and I! We got married on September 23, 2018. Our coordinator, Allison, was incredibly helpful and was always quick to respond. I remember asking so many questions, especially as the day got closer, but Allison never minded and helped calm my nerves about the details. It ended up raining on our wedding day, but even as an outdoor venue, PFI was still incredibly accommodating and helped us work out the details of extra tent rentals, parking ,etc. on the day of the wedding. They allowed our shuttle drivers to pull up as close as possible to the tents in order to keep our guests dry! You can also visit PFI any weekend during public visitation hours which was SO helpful instead of having to make continuous appointments. I went multiple weekends to iron out details of where tables would sit, where guests would walk, where to put a welcome sign, you name it. There was always a staff member there on the weekends happy to help!
Would highly recommend and would choose PFI all over again!!!

Wonderful Location for my Ceremony
We worked with two people leading up to our wedding. Both were quick to answer all emails and questions. Our wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful. We held it outside in the grassy area. I would definitely recommend couples to check out the Patapsco Female Institute!

A romantic, magical outdoor venue
I'm honestly SO grateful I found the Patapsco Female Institute during my wedding planning. Our guests still talk about how much they loved this venue! The ruins create a romantic, neoclassical vibe that is hard to find and are the perfect blank canvas to curate your dream wedding.
I'm especially grateful for event team really making sure we had everything we needed for the event—from recommending vendors to ensuring our guests found parking. They really helped everything come together!
One last piece to keep in mind: the rental fee does not include features such as tables, tents, or chairs. So do your research on those costs. But if you're willing to navigate those details, you can't find a more magical venue than the Patapsco Female Institute!
