About

Olde Breton Inn was once known as Society Hill, which derived its name from the Society of Jesus, a Catholic order of priests who dwelled here during the early settlement of Maryland.

Within sight of this lovely old home was the beginning of Georgetown University at Newtown Neck, founded by the Society of Jesus in 1668, on land conveyed to the society by William and Temperance Bretton on the 10th of November, 1661.

The old section of Society Hill Manor House was thought to be built in 1793 but old tax records show that the original section was built much earlier, possibly as early as 1670. This is evidenced by the hand hewn joists.

Olde Breton Inn was a private residence until the late 1950's. From then until 1987, the mansion was known to have operated as a restaurant, then a Country Club. 2017 marks the 30th year under the current ownership, and the Inn has been transformed into its present uses as a setting for weddings, business events, and special events.

We hope that this St. Mary's County mansion will create fond memories of experiences for thousands of future guests at Olde Breton Inn.

Superb Venue, Service, Food and Drink

We were so very pleased with OBI! They were so accommodating; whatever we wanted and needed, they made happen. We did not have to worry about finding an external caterer or provider of the beverages. They handled it all.

Stunning - Affordable - Flexible

Sarah and her team at Olde Breton Inn (Baileys Catering) was wonderful to work with, COVID delaying us a year and all. The event space is beautiful, we did a heavy appetizer display (no formal sit down dinner) and our guests said the food was amazing and some of the freshest oysters they ever had. They were flexible with their scheduling, let us decorate the day before our event, and even solved a last minute linen crisis overnight. I cannot recommend them enough!

Olde Breton Inn Wedding

Olde Breton Inn was amazing for our wedding! Their staff made our day run so perfectly, everything was amazing! Many guests commented on how nice the venue and food was. The staff was all so friendly and professional. We couldn't have asked for a better place to have our wedding.

Susan was especially great to work with. She was so professional and responsive, answering all our questions and helping us through the whole planning process. She went out of her way to allow us to decorate the venue early which made our wedding day much less stressful.

Start to finish Bailey's Catering and Olde Breton Inn was great and provided us with an amazing wedding reception!!

Wedding Venue

Sara and Susan were beyond amazing during our entire wedding process. They answered any question I had and made any changes; even up to last minute. They accommodated anything that we needed and made sure we felt 100% comfortable with everything. And we did! The venue is absolutely beautiful we couldn’t of been happier with how it turned out or imagined our wedding anywhere else!

My husband and I are so, so thrilled that we chose Olde Breton Inn as our venue for both our ceremony and reception. Susan, our coordinator there, was absolutely phenomenal from the moment I first emailed her about details. She is so responsive, so helpful and kind, and was an absolute joy to work with. The outdoor space for the ceremony is beautiful with the gazebo and gardens and a breathtaking view of the water. Our guests still talk about how gorgeous it all was! The reception room was perfect with huge windows overlooking the back deck and gazebo. Our guests spent plenty of time on the dance floor and enjoying the beautiful evening on the deck! The food was phenomenal; they worked with us on our menu and we had BBQ style food, and many of our guests said that it was some of the best they'd ever had. Every single staff member was so incredibly professional and wonderful the day of; we truly couldn't have asked for anything better. I wish we could do it all over again! Highly recommended!!

The Olde Breton Inn was a great choice for our wedding. We only did a reception at their site and everyone told us how beautiful it was from inside, and out, as they enjoyed the views of the landscape. We had a lot of my wife's family come in from out of town and had never been to SOMD before, so this gave them a great view of the water for the evening. Susan, the coordinator for the site, was attentive and flexible even with a few last minute changes. She was quite a pleasure to work with for our wedding. The chef worked with us and was able to accommodate the menu to our requests, and everyone raved about how great the food was too. You have to use their chef/catering (Bailey's) which was on-site cooking in their kitchen, and it really was a great choice. Costs for us was great and included the site, bar, and food, and was very reasonable compared to others in the area. We especially liked that it was a great indoor venue, especially on a hot summer day.

Note: you must have a minimum of 100 guests (or pay for min. 100) for the food. We had a little under that, but it was still the best option either way.

We had our reception at Olde Breton and it was great! The staff was very responsive and treated all of our guests very well. We got a lot of compliments about the food and the setting is beautiful in the evening with the sun setting over the bay.
