My dress came out amazing. I loved her feedback about hemming and how dress should fit to have best possible pictures. I felt completely confident that my dress would come out perfect and it did.

I had my dress taken in and K did a great job! She was finished with the alteration in less than a week. I will take other clothes for alterations to her.

I truly am not one to write negative reviews, but this was an awful experience and I don’t want anyone else to go through it.

Khan has great reviews online and I’m always down to support local women-owned businesses, so I reached out to her about working on my wedding dress. I had my dress custom designed but the issue is that in the time it took for my dress to be completed and arrive, I had lost a significant amount of weight. I know that bringing gowns in more than one or two sizes is a definite challenge so I was worried about finding someone to do the work, but after explaining the situation to Khan she said it was no problem for her. She said that her turn-around time was only a week and since my wedding was in August, I could wait to bring her my dress until mid-July.

When I went in everything seemed great, she was very professional, efficient, and was confident that she could make my dress the appropriate size. I went to pick it up the following week, and as promised it finally fit me. I did notice that the skirt looked a little bulky but she brushed it off saying the fabric needed to settle. Not one to argue, I accepted her explanation and brought my dress home. I tried it on again and still felt that the skirt had too much volume. It was originally a-line and now I looked like one of Cinderella’s step-sisters. Then I noticed that the puffiness was not all the way around the skirt, but was instead focused in three areas, one of which was in the center of my stomach and from the side it looked like I had a fanny pack around my waist. I lifted the layers of the skirt to see where it was coming from, and then I discovered bunches of fabric that had been stitched together haphazardly. And in the front there was a strangely uneven and seemingly unnecessary line of stitching that looked almost as if the fabric was accidentally stitched together. It was disappointing to see this quality of work on my wedding dress but honestly I wouldn’t have had such an issue with it if it didn’t affect the silhouette so drastically. Upon further inspection of the dress, I noticed several other areas that were awkward and sloppy looking but keeping in mind difficulty of what I had asked her to do, I didn’t get too hung up on them and was primarily displeased with the skirt.

I reached out to Khan about my concerns regarding the skirt, even including some pictures, and she responded promptly saying that she forgot to press it and that was the reason for the volume. I brought it back to her, and as she ironed it, she kept insisting that there shouldn’t be in issue. She had me try it on again and I pointed out the problem areas. She said it was because I needed to wear shape wear. I pointed to the very visible line across my stomach where the weird stitching was causing the skirt to jut out. She lifted the layers, stared at the bulge of fabric, then took a seam ripper and removed the line of stitching all around the skirt. The three layers that had apparently been stitched together all dropped and the bulges were gone, but were now hanging below the hem of my dress (it’s tea-length). She trimmed some fabric off, and had me try it on again. The layers were still hanging low, albeit crookedly now (about an inch in the front and at least two inches in the back). She said it looked that way because I wasn’t standing straight. I’m really not great with conflict, and honestly didn’t trust her to touch my dress anymore, so I thanked her and left. I was overwhelmingly stressed because now my dress was even sloppier looking and I had no idea if I could find someone to work on it on such short notice. Thankfully I found a wonderful seamstress who not only was able to fix the skirt in time for my ceremony next week but also noticed all the other issues I didn’t call her attention to, and is happy to work on it in the coming months before my larger post-COVID wedding in the spring.

I am totally willing to believe that Khan does better work with other clothing, but this was an awful and stressful experience and I would recommend taking a wedding dress elsewhere. For $300 I was surprised by the shoddy work, but it was the repeated denial of blatant issues that prompted this review.
