We recently had our wedding reception at the Richmond Downtown Hilton. Our coordinator was Kathryn and she was flat out incredible. She worked around both our crazy schedules and requests. She was always willing to ensure we were getting exactly what we were looking for. The Hilton catered our reception in addition to providing the venue. The food was out of this world. The chef has a wide range of capabilities and puts a delicious spin on traditional favorites. We had a pretty hard time narrowing down our selections because they were all so delicious.


Now, the important part. Preparation is a big deal prior to the event, but the most important part is the ability to perform. We did not have to think twice about anything. We were in perfect hands and did not have to give any direction once the party started. The staff handled everything effortlessly, and it was blast for everyone involved, including ourselves. We could not have asked for a better group of people or venue to host our reception.


The specifics: We had a group of about 125 people, an 11 piece band, dance floor, 2 bars, food stations on either side, and various dining tables on either side of the room. There was plenty of room for those that wanted to stand, dance, or be seated with friends.


We would highly recommend the Hilton to anyone that wants to have a reception in a historic Richmond, VA setting with accommodations for guests to easily stay, and proximity to all of the local entertainment.

We set up a room block at the Hilton for our wedding guests, which we ended up expanding quite a bit, to the point that a huge majority of our guests stayed at the Hilton for our wedding. We really appreciated working with Laura, in the sales office, as she was upfront with our options when we initially set up our block, and then worked with us through expanding it as well. Laura also worked with us to make sure that welcome bags were delivered to our guests upon check-in, and helped us book a large suite for the morning of the wedding for on site hair and makeup. Having that large space to use in the morning was easily one of the best aspects of the day - we had so much space to spread out and get ready, it was wonderful. The only item that could have gone better was that we had some rooms that we were hoping to have items delivered to prior to guests' arrival, and that did not happen consistently for all our rooms. However, Laura was very responsive and apologetic, and did not charge us for this service (which would have been a per room charge). The booking process online into the room block is easy, as Hilton gives you a personalized link, and they put our picture on their event screens in the lobby, which our guests really loved. This hotel also has a free shuttle service, which transports guests anywhere within a 2 mile radius, which almost all of our family utilized for the rehearsal dinner. I would definitely recommend working with them to make sure your guests have a positive experience.

We recently had a wedding at the John Marshall Hotel (John Marshall Ballrooms) on 5th Street in Downtown Richmond, VA. We decided to get a room block at the nearby Hilton Hotel. This hotel was absolutely amazing. The thing that stood out the most was their excellent customer service. The valet parking people, the breakfast staff, the housekeeping, front desk, and management treated us all like royalty. It is rare this day and age to get this level of customer service and that really stood out to not only us, but everyone that stayed there. The hotel has a restaurant on the first level named, “La Grotta Ristorante”, which was amazing!! Next, this hotel was formerly a famous department store that was renovated. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, the lobby is amazing, and the hotel has a full amenity package and parking. The historic plaques on each level were pretty neat to read, too. If anyone is ever planning to stay in downtown Richmond, this hotel is the best and it is walking distance to lots of great restaurants.
