Unique Venue with multiple spaces to use
My husband and I wanted a unique venue for our surprise wedding in October 2020. The AVAM venue was the only venue we visited before booking and it truly is so unique. The sculpture barn is beautiful and hardly needs additional decor. In addition, the barn leads to a garden space that was perfect for our cocktail hour. The museum staircase steps created an intimate space for our ceremony. The best part is you have access to all these spaces for one price. Definitely worth every penny. Their vendors that they recommend are truly amazing and Rhea, the facilities director is so helpful and great to work with. I highly recommend this space. Your guest will be so impressed!Sent on 10/28/2020

Perfect Despite COVID
AVAM was a pleasure to work with. We originally planned for a May 2020 wedding and postponed to September 2020 due to the pandemic. We actually happened to be their first wedding after closing in March! I was in contact with Rhea throughout the summer, and she was the shining beacon of planning this wedding. She was extremely responsive via email and very accommodating. We held a microwedding outdoor ceremony (28 people) on the covered patio in the garden area next to the sculpture barn. We had 3 hours and it was just enough time to feel like a full wedding, with small pockets of dancing spread across the patio.
The main setback we had actually ended up not being a setback at all, thanks to Rhea’s transparency — the wooden sculpture was in the midst of reconstruction in the weeks leading up to the ceremony, so Rhea offered us the option to move the ceremony to other outdoor locations (like in front of the egg). When we opted to stay in the garden to avoid the mess of coordinating with the other vendors, she brought down potted trees and plants to place in front of the wooden poles. It ended up giving us a beautiful backdrop that was earthy but also unfinished in a wonderfully imperfect, way. All in all, 10/10. Many of our guests said it was their favorite wedding they had been to... ever!! I will forever be greatly to Rhea and her team for their support and flexibility. They really just want you to have the best day you can in a safe manner!Sent on 11/02/2020
American Visionary Art Museum's reply:Thank you Nicole (and Jen!) You all just had the best attitudes throughout the whole planning process and I couldn't have been more grateful to have you all as our first "COVID" wedding. Thanks again for being flexible on the garden space, I agree, it turned out beautifully, and you will forever be the only couple with that particular backdrop for the ceremony!
Our home away from home. We work at AVAM probably more than any other DJ and it's always a great match with our clients who are looking for something different than the normal wedding elements. The museum is quirky and fun with it's own unique brand of Baltimore charm. Even if you don't have your event here, which you should, you definitely should stop by and check out the place. Really, there is no place like it on the planet. We love our AVAM events!
I have not found a more unique and interesting venue in downtown Baltimore. Each time we have the privilege of working an event there, I MUST wander through the museum a bit to see all the incredible and truly unique art pieces at the AVAM. It is a must see if you're in Baltimore, and it's a really fun venue to have your next event! So many things to keep your guests entertained, and it is truly one of the most unique places in Baltimore! The AVAM team is top notch and you can bet you're going to get first class treatment when planning your event with the AVAM.
This is a venue that has it right. They have a unique vibe that is inviting and fun for guests of a wedding and museum goers alike. If you are planning a smaller event then the Sculpture Barn offers flexibility designing the room and patio. The garden area is cozy and is a great good weather ceremony option. If you are looking to accommodate a larger crowd then their John Rouse Visitor's Center is awesome. A multi-level building with engaging exhibits and a reception space that is versatile. The site is laid out well. The fact that you have tables and chairs available with the JRVC rental is a definite plus when planning an event. Definitely worth checking out! Bonus - typically some fun activity is happening down town at the Inner Harbor within walking distance from the museum for any guests staying in Baltimore for the weekend of your wedding.
